No reaction when his wife is dying

So I'm only 15min into the movie and I'm just really shocked because I would think of David Duchovny as a good actor. Yet when his wife is dying he is having absolutely no reaction except maybe a little tension and disappointment like he was watching a football game or something. If your loved one was dying right in front of you, I would think your reaction would be a little more hysterical then his. I just found this really weird.
