Falklands

Britian fought the Falklands War and had more veterans commit suicide than were killed in combat.

And that was a pretty black and white war, unlike the multitudes of grey peacekeeping we're currently undertaking.

Do you think it'll be worse this time?

Here's a good link for the falklands case, had to check it out first.

I mean first off the SAS has an extremly high suicide rate, I know that's no excuse but they do the most covert and dangerous missions.

Secondly it has also been 20 years, and also we'd have to judge this just from a purly British perspective, I guess the only way you could do it for Americans is to compare it to Vietnam in about 10 years or so.

As for it being worse this time, well we have always had a bad track record for taking care of our service peronel and being slow to learn and adapt. Famously during WW1 where we refused to acknowledge shell shock.

Our logistics has always been poor as well and this time we are extremely over-stretched, right now our troops don't have the helicopters they need in Afghanasthan, and some are without body armour as well.

Peronally I don't think the pyschiatric help given to our troops will have imrpoved much, the only thing I heard of recently was allowing troops a downtime period in Malta (can't be sure if it was that island) for a few weeks where they try and readjust themselves back into the civilian population. It was in the news though cause our soldiers were starting fights out there with the local population.
