Escape from Suburbia

Anyone seen the new follow-up documentary?

I saw it, and it isn't as good as the original.

The 'talking heads' sections were still pretty good, you get to hear from new voices such as Sen. Roscoe Bartlett, who looks like a great politician, and from David Suzuki, Thomas Homer-Dixon, as well as some new clips from James Howard Kunstler and Richard Heinberg.

It also showcases two projects that seem really great. The first is an inner-city community garden, South Side Farm, that looks really amazing, suprising it could exist in an urban area, and, of course, runs up against political trouble. It also showcases a small town, Willits CA, which is also very encouraging: they basically saw End of Suburbia, and decided as a town to prepare for Peak Oil, and seem to be very pragmatic and democratic about it. I wouldn't mind seeing a whole film on this town alone.

The downfall of this film is its segments focusing on 3 people/couples escaping from suburbia. It was a good attempt to show personal stories of how Peak Oil is being dealt with by people who accept the theory, but none of these vignettes are gripping to watch, and it doesn't look like any of these people have come very far in their personal solutions to the problem. Rather than seeing 'ordinary people' grappling with the issue, I would have liked to see some more experts, how they're dealing with the problem on a personal level.

I am perhaps being a little harsh on it, I'll watch it again and see if I'm not mistaken.
