Watching On Netflix Right Now

This is a great documentary for any artist. I think The Gates was a great idea and visually was beautiful. One thing that drove me to come online and post this thread was to talk about the attitudes of the people that were against The Gates. I know that we are all entitled to our own opinions, but some of the disagreement of the people interviewed was so weird and automatically biased.

So many of them had instant dislike for the project before even seeing what it would be. Many of them complained about the funding even when they knew that the artists were funding it. Many complained that "it's a park" and shouldn't have anything but nature in it.

Just seeing the disgusted looks on the faces of the people was perplexing because it seemed to me to be SUCH a genius idea. I mean, where else in the world should the bold color of a reddish-orange and the material of The Gates stand out other than the historically-artistic New York City? Central Park was the perfect place to create a contrast between trees, water, Earth, animals and The Gates.

Of course, this is my opinion and I don't expect all of those people in the video to agree, but I just can't understand those arguments that "nature" in Central Park shouldn't be disturbed. I love nature and feel that The Gates did not interfere.

Anyway, in conclusion, I think The Gates (even without the fabric) were beautiful. They remind me of Japanese torii (the "gates" at the shrines). They provided a pattern in the park as they lined the walkways. They gave a sense of harmony.
