Anyone else an extra on this?

I was an extra with some friends, when they were filming in Castle Ashby... was an amazing experience I thought, even if I was given Egon Spengler hair!

reply

Great! Can you tell us anything about the production? Did you get to meet any of the stars? What scenes did they film at Castle Ashby?

reply

I didn't get to meet anyone personally, although a friend of mine spoke to Robert Lindsey I think.

I just remember one scene they told me and my friend to go sit on some steps, about as far away from the camera as you could get, so we decided to sit on a bench a little closer instead. As soon as they started filming though Damien Lewis walked right by us, over to the steps and started having a conversation with someone there!

reply

Okay I have to ask, did your friend say that Robert Lindsay was nice and is Damian Lewis as good looking in real life and he is on screen?!

reply

Yeah, as far as I can remember she said he was a nice warm bloke. Kinda wish I'd been there too but I was on a plane to Rhodes!

From a guy's perspective, I'd say he's a good looking guy. He's also my acting link to Bill Murray in Ghostbusters, whoo!

reply

"Acting link to Bill Murray in Ghostbusters"? Is this one of those "six degrees of separation" things? Please explain! Kathy

reply

Kathy, he might be thinking of William Atherton who Damian is always being compared to. When Damian grew a beard for Dreamcatcher, a ton of people said he looked like that EPA guy in Ghostbusters, who happened to be played by William Atherton. I know alot of people thought Atherton was ugly, but he looked just fine to me, it was just his character's personality that was so ugly.

reply

Jodhi May fans are wondering: was she there and what was she like?

reply

Hi. I played a maid/servant at Castle Ashby. I did see Jodhi May. She was very quiet and pretty. I also personally spoke to Damian Lewis and Robert Lindsay and Eddie Marsden shared his sweets with me. I was in the scene of the picnic by the lake, the bus scene, biker scene at the evening party and the indoor pool party. I immensely enjoyed myself and was well looked after by all the crew.

reply

How exciting! What did you speak with Damian Lewis about? Was he nice, good looking, what is his character like?

reply

We talked about the picnic that we were having under the trees - about how nice the cakes, sandwiches and setting were. It was during a break off-set during the bus scene. He acts very cool and yes, he is good-looking! He asked me where I was from and if I was enjoying myself ( I was just trying to get around the stars as much as possible). It was a very special day.

reply

Hehe, yeah its one of those six degree things...

- I was an extra in this film, with Damien Lewis
- Damien Lewis was in dreamcatcher, with Timothy Olyphant
- Timothy Olyphant was in The Girl Next Door with Elisha Cuthbert
- Elisha Cuthbert was in 24 with Harris Yulin
- Harris Yulin was the judge in Ghostbusters II, with Bill Murray!

Can anyone remember the name of the woman who was in charge of the extras? She was really nice, I thought I'd be nervous as hell but she was really friendly and kept us all relaxed I thought.

reply

i think her name was Alex Beale was the lady that took me on as an extra for friends and crocodiles she was really was nice

reply

I was an extra on two scenes: I playing one of the photographers of Jodhi May when she explain how her company loss peoples money. Another was one of the businessmen who finds out that the company have loss their money.

reply

She was nice to an extent - such a shame she refused to let me stay in touch so that I could get more work!

reply

Yeh i have to agree on that as well! she could have let us keep in contact. I have tried ringing her a few times since then but no answer!! I was one of the party guests round the lake and at the actual party. In one scene i was told to walk directly in front of the camera and damien lewis!! Would be good if they used that shot! Does anyone know when this is actually due for release??

reply

The Region 2 DVD is now available for pre-order from the BBC Shop with a release date of September 5th so it is likely that it will broadcast in the UK at that time.

reply

Who met Robert lindsay and what did you think?

Cheers

reply

Yeah I was also an extra, played a Valet/servant. We were lucky really because we got used quite a lot. I remember being by the lake and being eaten alive by all the flies ..lol On top of that getting sun burnt to high heaven, needed extra make-up to calm it down. Also managed to keep a invitation from the party scene seeing as I was taking them off all the guests .lol Didn't get it signed though which was a shame. The other memory I have was of myself in the driving seat on the bus while Jodhi May told the others to put their backs into it and push ...All in all it was long hours lots of time talking to people and having what I look back on as a great time. Thanks to everyone I met on set and hope to hear from more of you.

reply

i was one of the coterie with 2 guys called matt and edd....we were mates of damians' character paul and were used quite a lot.i was pretty chuffed to be chosen for an interior which centred around an ostentatious dinner party.i was asked to improvise dialogue with one or two of the principals.poliakoff himself was immensely creative;a real visionary whose attention to detail with wides/close ups and tracking shots was incredibly compelling to watch.

reply

So what was Damian Lewis like? Details please!

reply

I was a chef in the scene when Jodhi was briefing us on the party, one of the party scenes and the biker scene. A valet in the bus pushing scene , the pool scene and served Daniel Lewis when he was near the pool area scene. Everyone was realy nice. On one day , Daniel kicked a football around with a few extras .
Looooong hours ,in fact the longest I have worked on any extras job, but enjoyable.

reply

Thanks for the info! Just to let you know, his name is Damian Lewis (Daniel Day Lewis is a different guy!)

reply

Damian Lewis also like playing the piano whenever he could get his hands on one. lol Also .. what was the guys name that got told to leave after a bit of a do with one of the cast. I missed it for I wasn't there on that day. Got told the day after it happened.

reply

Was his piano playing any good?

reply

yeah actually he's not too bad at all. Lets just say better than you would think.
I seem to recall Robert Lindsay having a few problems with all the wasps that we had to put up with too. As he walked passed me between takes, he took a swipe at the flying horde looked at me and smiled ... saying " Bloody BBC extras " ..lolol
I thought if stephen poliakoff with his many multicoloured straws that he got through had to pay all the wasps there wouldn't be much left for us. pmsl

reply

oops , sorry , got the name wrong, never heard of him before that .

The wasps were a pain by the pool that day.

I was there the day the guy had a run in with one of the actors during lunch, wow , that made the room go quiet.

reply

Not sure if anyone is interested but I did take a few pictures from the days we were there. No stars because we weren't allowed to do that. But still managed to take a few pics to remind myself of the film. If anyone is interested just messaged me with your e-mail and I'll send them to you.

reply

I was a servant for several days filming including pushing the double decker bus, what fun. Everyone was really friendly and I managed to speak to Damien Lewis during filming of the party scene, pretty good piano playing as well, from what i remember he was playing Elton Johns - My song, between takes.

Also was there when the guy had a run in during lunch, can't remember exactly what happened but he dissapeared pretty sharply afterwards.

reply

What did you and Damian Lewis speak about? How did he look? Details please!

reply

Literally very short chat a couple of times just said hi, asked how i was, if i was enjoying it. He looked rather snazzy in a silk looking white suit if i remember rightly. Very friendly guy.

reply

How exciting, thanks!

reply

"Also was there when the guy had a run in during lunch, can't remember exactly what happened but he dissapeared pretty sharply afterwards"

Wasn't Ricky Gervais was it?...

reply

What was Jodhi like?

reply

more about jodhi.

bump.

reply

Any other recollections of moments with Jodhi? She is such a private person and those of us who are her fans relish any tidbits of info we can get. Thanks in advance.

reply

She was pretty quiet really, friendly when people did get her to talk, but she seemed nice enough as we all sat on a double decker bus in the rain waiting to film. Lucky her got a nice warm coat.

reply

Hmm was extra when they filmed at my school last year (or earlier can't remember) Bill Nighy and Emily Blunt were lovely people and Nighy gave me his kitkat lol! my claim to fame.
