this sucked

Ok, I will preface this by saying i watched it on dvd, and i have heard one or two tings about it being a bad translation or something.

with that said, this was awful. the dialogue was terrible and jet li was a terrible actor. he overdid and comicalized everything. the whole start in the present, go to the past, then back to the present thing was terrible, and the entire he goes to the country part was grossly out of place and absolutely terrible.

and what happened to the whole "last martial arts epic" thing? he has done martial arts films since this one. what gives?

reply

It means he wont be portraying any more famous historical martial arts figures which he is most famous for.

reply

thats not what he is most famous for, he is most famous for doing modern day action films with dmx and things.

SPOILERS!!!!

This Movie was Good it had a deep Meaning behind the story it turned out to be totally different then i thought it would be since in the beginning he was so stupid and he didn`t learned anything later he realized what life means. But in the end it really made no sense at all he knows fighting is bad but defending is good ok i understood that. Why then does he accept other fights against them? I could understand the 1 fight against that goriilla guy but creating the school again and accepting the fight against the 4 [althou he only wanted to visit the grave of his parents] that made no sense at all. It gives the meaning for peace you have to fight [lol that sounds familiar doesn`t it].
I understand other Movies having deeper thoughts about revolting against the outsiders [British and other countrys] but here it tells you nothing at all so the whole thing is useless you could say. And i really didn`t understand why they had to relate it with the Olympics bringing wushu in olympics yeah well how about bringing every Sport into olympics there are alot of martial arts forms that are not in the Olympics maybe everyone can tell a story about its good parts but it had nothing to do with the Movie. I hate it if Movies are trying to make Propaganda about something here it was more advertising it.

reply

just because somebody realizes the important things in life doesn't mean the movie is good.

reply

Umm who goes and sees a Jet Lit movie for the storyline really? you watch his movies for the amazing fight sequences!

reply

This movie was simply great. If you took away the flashback technique from the beginning of the movie to the end of the movie... it wouldn't be as great. By the way, I don't think Jet Li is a horrible actor. He also tries to end the stereotypes with martial arts movies and adds a little more cinematic technique to it.

reply

It was clearly stated why he founded the school and that martial arts is not about beating opponents, its about beating yourself. Maybe watch the part again when the school was founded and when he talked to the japanese master. And this time try to get a version with proper translation.

reply

That might be what he is most famous for to 300 million Americans, but then there are also four times more Chinese people than Americans in the world, and to them he is best known for his wuxia movies, of which this was his last. Look up what the word "wuxia" means, idiot.

The rest of your criticisms are pointless and ill-conceived. There's nothing wrong with this movie. You shouldn't criticize things you don't understand.

If you really think this movie sucks, the i am sorry to tell you that you have terrible tast with movies. I mean do you even know any Martila Art movie!! This movie is one of Li's best work, it's simply perfect.

reply

I agree with you, Sag-28. How could he watch Jet Li's awesome Wushu moves, the incredible tower, the gorgeous restaurant, the country landscapes, and not to mention the imaginative retelling of a legendary heroic Chinese martial arts master that opposed the cruel foreign influence that was destroying Chinese national pride. It's so much fun. And Jet Li's a good actor, if by that you mean you can't take your eyes off of him. He totally dominates. His fighting is so much cooler than those old Clint Eastwood heroes who did nothing but pull a gun, no body language at all. The amount of Jet Li's skill and the beauty of all his moves are undeniable. This movie is a gem. Bruce Lee would have really loved it because Jet Li uses his Buddhist non-violent philosophy like Bruce Lee wanted to make the heart of his master fighter characters. If that guy thinks Jet Li's a bad actor, than how come it's impossible to take your eyes off him. And his graceful, and not just superfast style of fighting is even cooler than the fight
scenes in "The 300" by the Spartans CGI fighting against the Persians.

its his best n his last. And to the author of this thread, he is best known for his Once upon a time series, Twin Dragons and all of those movies that made him famous when he was still acting in HK film durin the 90's. You cant rely say his recent ones like "The One", "Kiss of the dragon" n "Romeo must die" are the ones that made him famous, cos those films were just there to make him more popular in the American filming market. On a personal level, I cannot imagine anyone else doing Fearless - cos Jet Li is the main one thats only right for the job. Anyways you should see his other films before making any more stupid comments, especially on this film - which is his last and prolly his best from doin famous traditional figures of China.

reply

OK maybe it isnt flawless. but this movie felt really fresh in the martial arts genre. i thought it had a really good balance. it wasnt to slow like many other of the big production martial arts movies that rely on "beautiful photography" wasnt to much hardcore action in it to make it unpersonal. i loved this movie and i think its one of the best jet li movies so far.

the movie was a joke. I would say the movie was much worse than Jet Li was in it, even though he wasn't very good. Those movies were what made him famous here in america, not necessarily to begin with. and he lied, that is not his last, he just made kingdom. not to mention, what else is he going to start doing? drama? hah!

I think you have some sort of brain damage.

what are you talking about? this movie was terrible end of discussion. and no that is not an opinion it is a fact.

reply

Alexanderman - go watch Lethal Weapon or The Transporter or whaterver and leave the Chinese language Kung Fu films to the people that can appreciate them.

reply

thats pretty stupid amarcordian. Would we know Jet Li today if it wasn't for Lethal Weapon?
You can make Chinese language Kung Fu films good or really bad.
This was really bad.

Plenty of Hong Kong/martial arts flicks aficionados already knew about him before his appereance in LW4.

Yes. He's the lead in Danny the Dog.

Great movie. Wu Shu was the pride of the country. He was drunk with pride and over ambition which are silly faults described in any asian martial arts texts so it was only right that his character be more cartoonish in the beginning. Going to the country was a break from the pace of the movie because the character needed a complete break in the pace of his way of living. Reflection is the only way to assess himself and he was his own greatest opponent that he was/had lost to. His discussion with the Japanese opponent over tea, about the different teas and which were better was crucial to the point of the movie. No style of wu shu is better than anothers. And it was through combat that they as a people were being belittled by the britains being called 'little and weak people.' so he fought the four combatants and truly was a superior fighter but the light was shone on the more noble of paths when the Japanese fighter offered to postpone the fight and ultimately accepted defeat because he saw the winning "punch" that jet li's character held back on. bringing full circle the lesson that he over-looked in the beginning, 'just because you can, doesnt mean you should'...restrain, a very important idea strained in almost every art of combat.
