I am deeply sorry ..

But I think this film is terrible .. and I consider myself a film-buff. For the first time in my whole life, I have not finished a movie (I stopped at 45 minutes), and it was Scott Pilgrim.
This reminded me of Kick-ass, same kind of leagues, and I hated it aswell.
Don't get me totally wrong, the soundtrack was great, the editing was flawless, I have to admit it was somewhat original, and I did giggle a few times but the rest, oh please, what the hell went through Edgar Wright's head?

I think I expected too much from this movie, I surely didn't expect all the superpowers *beep* and that's why I must have been so disappointed ..

Luckily there are a lot of people who seem to have enjoyed this movie, and I'm glad they did.

Thanks for telling us both a balance of what you liked and what you didn't.

I think the issue is that a lot of people take this entire movie as absolutely LITERAL instead of metaphorical.

I never once honestly believed Scott lived in the world the movie portrays, but more along the lines of what is going on in Scott's HEAD as these things happen.

Literal or Meta, I'm perfectly able to immerse into a movie if it needs me to respond it it's style or attempts to immerse me.

I simply didn't respond to this, I found everything obnoxious and boring. I understand why people love it. The over-acting that Wright seems to fancy works in British humour more than it does in American humour IMO. American over-acting is very hard to pull off without turning into a cringe-inducing improv show effect, which is not everyone's cup of tea. Some people can watch Who's line is it anyway with Colin Mochrie and think his zany "Uncle shaking keys at children" level of comedy is effect, and some want to punch the tv, I fall in the latter category. Robin Williams of old used to set the standard for over-acting, everyone else is just trying to match it to me, and when his career became stale from it, the whole style of acting became unbearable.

I just couldn't stand it, and it isn't personal or as people who can't wrap their heads around someone hating what they worship, I am not disliking this or anything else on purpose. If I was ever to do that, then I would have never watched Lord of the Rings 5 times through and then read books, because I thought it was all boring and lame before I gave it a shot.

This seems like certain niche horror movies are to me, too much of a stretch into the niche hip fantastical in terms of it's language and style delivery. You either think it is quirky and fun and get into it, or think it is annoying and obnoxious and you turn away. I am the latter.

I agree with you on the problem with "American over-acting" here, but I wouldn't call it unbearable per se.
It's just that IMO the movie is woefully miscast for this kind of comedy. (And Michael Cera is only the tip of the iceberg.)

To make this kind of comedy work, you'd need actors like, e.g. Donald Glover. His performance in Community is outstanding and exactly what would fit this movie.

The movie really is horrible.

reply

Why say sorry? It isn't your fault.

reply

Sorry you feel that way.

look at the faces of the people who like this movie!

I disagree with most of what you said, but there is only one thing with what you wrote that I have a massive problem with.

Do not EVER apologize for your opinion!

It's the way you see things and you should not say sorry for that!

I respectfully disagree with your thoughts on the film, but it's no like you can please everyone.

The difference between a debate and an argument is one is noble and one is idiotic. Chose wisely.
