Why should she be kidding? Judaism is a RELIGION, I could be Italian and still be of Jewish religion. Therefore, I don't necessarily need to be Israeli to practice Judaism.

I only suggested that she read more or do some research on the word Jewish and she would have discovered that being Jewish involves both ethnicity and religion as well as culture.
