Mark Wahlberg was a wet blanket the entire movie

It wasnt inspiring or interesting. Just depressing, with each scene I was wondering what was going to happen to sink Wahlberg even further into his depression. The only smile in the entire movie was a picture of the real Papale

that might just have been his character. his wife just left him - in a particularly cruel way, his buddies are all pretty much out of a job because they're on strike, there are various refferances to vietnam which has ended the year before this was set, so maybe the guy wasnt trying to get his hopes up. i liked his performance, i thought it was true to a bartender from south philly in the mid 70's who was way out of his league playing in the NFL with no college experience, at an age where most players retire or see a significant reduction in play time. back then at least.

it was his CHARACTER

I thought he was excellent. He was honest and real. I could see the character he
played. One of his better performances actually. If he keeps working, he's due for an Oscar sometime.

Hell I remember him singing with Vanilla Ice!

i like wahlbergs acting, hes very good, and he did very well in this movie. parts were depressing, but remember, this was a true story, and it was telling that story.

I love Mark Wahlberg. Loved him in Shooter specially, but I don't care that he isn't 6 ft 2... it's Mark Wahlberg who is bigger than life on the screen

reply

The real Vince Papale seemed very cheerful.

I think the scenes with the real Papale which were shown at the end of the movie when he'd made the team and was playing.

So, there is no way that we know how the real Papale handled the rest of whatever he had to overcome to get into the team.

reply

It was not the strongest performance from him.

Its that man again!!
