Made a Better Ending

Instead of showing the guys face after the "officer" walks away from him
they should of shown him drawing his gun and shooting the "officer" (maybe not show the actual shot)

My only other problem with this movie has to be the fire
I mean WTF you know these things don't like it you know they attack at night so why the F don't you build a ring of fire around yourself

/sig\A good DUB is better then a good SUB, but knowing the native language is best.

reply

Probably because if you build a ring of fire around yourself, you're going to #$@#-ing burn to death!

reply

Not only that, the creatures could "burrow" under the fire, no?

reply

like your ending

When there's no more room in hell, The dead will walk the earth...

reply

I was actually waiting for this ending....

reply

Lion's Gate is notorious for making horror movies with endings that have no closure whatsoever.

reply

I disagree. The ending was good and felt real to me. Drawing the gun and shooting the officer is cheesy and not suitable for this film.

reply

For me this ending would have been better with some sort of closure, while still leaving you with a sense of wanting more. This movie was way to slow for me at the beginning and it finally got good within the last 15-20 minutes of the movie. If the movie had cut out most of the lagging storyline near the beginning they could have had more room for a more action-packed ending. This movie's ending is disappointing to me because it seems that the movie ended right at the climax (middle) of the movie verses the actual ending point of the movie. All in all a good movie if you like slow lagging beginnings and cliff endings. Really liked the storyline, just to slow going of a movie for me to really get into.

reply

Then you clearly missed the point and watched this movie for what it's not. This is not a horror for the sake of gore, blood and testis. And it ended perfectly, you didn't like it because you expected a different movie.

A non-boring one?

Big Gay Al, it has recently come to our attention that you are gay.

reply

A non-boring one?

No, the one that doesn't make you think. And you know, long time ago people didn't have electricity or sewer. They entertained themselves by watching street shows and listening to a storyteller. What do you think they found as boring? Don't be an ignorant prick.

reply

I liked the ending too. The officer remains completely clueless about what's going on and interprets everything as just another excuse to attack and visit mayhem on the Indians. In doing so, he destroys the knowledge of the only means to combat the real threat. It would have been gratifying to see him "get his" but I think the ending was best the way it is.

reply

I'm on the fence on how to feel about this movie. On one hand it had the right atmosphere and had a good concept, on the other it felt a little slow and felt the ending was somewhat disappointing. I enjoyed it for what it was, but I ended up feeling empty in the end.

Because sponges never have bad days.

Yep...

Agree absolutely...

I have over 6000 films now, many of them very rare and OOP. I LOVE to trade. PLEASE ASK!

Why didn't Thatcher (or whatever his name was) tell the officer about the Burrowers? And who was the man in the dirt toward the ending credits?

reply

Thatcher? Parcher was the guy used as bait by the Ute. Coffey didn't tell the officer about the Burrowers because he knew the officer wouldn't have believed him. The man in the dirt at the ending credits was the kid with the protagonists: Dobie.

"Instead of showing the guys face after the "officer" walks away from him

What would the motive for shooting the officer possibly have been?

Gamera is really neat! He is made from turtle meat! We've been eating Gamera!

reply

I agree this ending was unsatisfying. I'm not sure what would have made it better. Maybe one of the burrowers eating the soldier. That would have been justified.

reply

His motive was that after all that work he put into keeping them alive, the cocky ignorant officer killed them and doomed the prairie to terror every so many years.

As far as the ring of fire burning him, no just no. Alaska, wolves, Jack London!

I didn't find the movie boring, I was very entertained just disappointed with the cop out. Him killing the officer wouldn't have resolved anything. The knowledge of how to kill the "monsters" is still lost, the Natives are dead, the "settlers" are dead, and the monsters have gotten their feed.

With him killing the officer the movie ends in vengeance instead of despair.
