About HAIR

I was just thinking about other movies that were set in the very short period of "sexual equality" from [about] 1963 to 1970 and the Musical Hair came to mind.

when I revived my recollections on Wiki of that feelgood musical [which I saw in 1968 in Sydney] it occured to me that Julie Taymor has used the exact same themes, situations and places from Hair in making Across the Universe [ie The Atlantic].

but the unique aspect is she has based her musical ON the major driving force of that time which was the Beatles.

what is fascinating to me is that Hair did not NEED to exclude the nasty intrusion of small f feminism in 1970 and the END of sexual equality [and liberation] to this very day, for the simple reason that it was yet to HAPPEN.

but for Taymor in 2007, she has obviously "drawn a line in the sand" at 1970 and based the whole movie content before that line.

that of course is in total contrast to Crowe in Almost Famous where he starts it in 1973 after the rot had well and truly set in and Rock 'n Roll had "died" along with all the values and equalities which "the swinging sixties" had fought so hard to achieve, leaving just the American Beauty to follow for 40+ years.
