Is 'ladette' a British term for slave?

Lets teach these girls to be 100% submissive to men and put men above themselves regardless.
Lets teach these girls that you should never defend yourself.
Lets teach these girls that the most important thing they can do is serve men.

Good God....how archaic.

Love the show though.....thats whats weird.

I think you mean, is "lady" a British term for slave, since that's what they're trying to turn these women in to.

I think future Stepford Wife is more like it.

better than their alternatives..
were you even watching what they were like before?
a vast improvement thats for sure, even if it is only for entertainment value :)

the show from what ive seen is to teach girls not to sleep with men just because they can... that smoking and drinking is bad for your health (and disgusting- imo)

I admire women who display not only independence, but also respect for themselves, which none of these girls had.

Yeah...it was two years ago...but I got the terms mixed up.
I meant to ask if "lady" meant slave.

What nonsense. I would rather these girls learn how to have manners even if it does mean serving men than have them drinking the men under the table and flashing their assests every time they are drunk. There is nothing wrong with behaving decorously and I don't see it as making them subserviant at all - and I'm a feminist. At least the men treat them like ladies and not slappers.

I want to know what "ladette" means period. Sounds almost like a transvestite.

A 'ladette' is a girl who copies the behaviour of 'lads' who are boys who get very drunk and act like hooligans, often running foul of the law. They attempt to match their male counterparts in drinking and as most women have only half the capacity for alcohol (according the NHS and AA statistics) they do so at great risk to their health. There have been publicised cases of so called, 'ladettes' being hospitalised and I believe there have been fatalities. The ladettes are also known for imitating other features of the lads' behaviour such as drinking from the bottle and being rude and indecent in public.

It is recognised that such behaviour can reflect deep anger, frustration and resentment that men still have more freedom than women. Ladettes have expressed the wish that they could stop behaving like this but also they recognise that when drunk they lose self control. Many ladettes are probably alcoholics.

The show does seem to offer an opportunity for helping those who wish to change - though at a price. Clearly, the 'reality' of this reality show is that of an earlier time. It is hard to see the advantage of being given a fairly minimal training in etiquette and upper class behaviour that will barely equip them for an insular and tradition bound upper class when they have so widely advertised their original background. There have been no follow ups so we do not know whether they swam or sank like a stone. Similarly, it is not certain whether they will return to their original life with any degree of acceptance. As George Bernard Shaw indicated with his original play, 'Pygmalion' the result of such attempts at social engineering may be unsatisfactory at best and downright cruel at worst.

A striking side effect of the show must surely be to show just how snobbish, outdated and hurtful the whole concept and its realisation appear to be. All the participants (apart from the girls) are self-congratulatory, arrogant and even mean-spirited. However you define the term there is not a single lady - or gentleman - in the entire show, just a lot of snobs getting off on tormenting a handful of already damaged girls. If I were one of the old aristocracy I'd horse-whip the lot of them.
