Dawna isn't exactly an 'apprentice' level employee. Lame finale!
While I wasn't surprised Dawna got the job, I don't think it was really a good choice in some ways. On many levels, she's a great asset to MSLO -- but she's hardly an "apprentice," which mocks the premise of the show. I really enjoyed this show -- far more than Trump's -- but I think this outcome would have soured me on watching a second season, so I guess I care less now that there won't be one. Martha, your "comeback" is evaporating.
I think the main reason Dawna won was it was a chance for Martha to promote that new magazine on the finale. But I've been working in publishing for 20 years -- and I would love to know what magazine job she's getting paid a quarter of a mil for. That's not in the ball park for any job on any staff I have ever been on. MAYBE an editor in chief at a well-known, big circulation mag, but it's not the norm for most journalist to get six figures at all. So I was kind of floored by that.
When they showed that Dawna was already publisher of her own magazine, it made me think she really should NOT get the job, because that's not the concept of hiring an "Apprentice." Someone like Bethanny or even Marsella (sp. sorry) who still needed some training and smoothing out of the rough edges, makes more sense. But Dawna is someone who's ready to step into an executive position right now. But -- um.... She HAS a job. That's the other thing. No matter what, one would think she's eventually, sooner than later, going to want to go back full-time to the business she's already running with her husband. So of course she's smart to take this job and soak up every bit of learning she can get, from someone super successful in her field...then take all that knowledge back to her own company. Another of the contestants might have actually stayed with MSLO a long, long time, but I doubt Dawna will....
Also, it was clear at the end that Martha knew before this episode who was going to win, so the whole final task and finale were just "going through the motions." That was pretty lame.
