Stop hating. This movie's great. What a wonderful pace, really low-key, wonderful scenes. Hilarious and inventive musical numbers. Tsing Ming-Liang is a totally amazing director. He gets more out of a scene with a still camera and no dialogue than any American director with tons of dialogue and cuts. Stop expecting film to be like TV, your distraction. This is about images and emotions. So stop hating.

If you want it, buy an all region DVD player. The Taiwan release (Region 3) has excellent English subs. I hope you're a huge fan of Tsai Ming-Liang, as that's what you need to be to enjoy this film.

I bought the DVD from yesasia.com. it has a fine transfer. anasamas is an idiot who spends all his time trolling around this message board.

Anyone know if it's available for download online? Normally, I buy or rent all my films, but it's kinda hard when they haven't been released here and you don't have a multi region DVD player.

Evidently the release has been delayed. I tried ordering it from YesAsia.com but it's not available at the moment. Anyway I got tired of waiting so I went to Chinatown and bought a very good quality bootleg for $4. (It's apparently a good seller, the clerk knew the title and thought it might be sold out.)

Although Tsai's films do have a limited audience, all his other films have gotten DVD releases in North America, this is the only one that hasn't. The reason for that is possibly because it was not well received at the '05 Toronto Film Festival, which surprised me when I read that because Tsai is one of the darlings of the TIFF. Is it because its focus is sex? Is it because it was perceived as mysoginistic or is because it seems to be making a moralistic anti-pornography statement?

I thought it was one of his most audacious films and I love it for that.
