I remember seeing the dead end of this, and seeing a bunch of sort-of "memorial flashes" of characters, and seeing her.

I don't think so. She was safely on land during the whole bombing part of the movie, so she should have been just fine. Much like her boyfriend, they just dropped her character when she was no longer needed, instead of providing for some sort of resolution.
