last orders

There is a recurring theme where a scene is taking place in a drinking establishment and the bartender shouts "last orders". Is this just a reiteration of the idea that life is finite and everyone will have to face up to their own mortality eventually?

This sounds like another scene where our own interpretation is as good as another's. But the first couple of times he yells last call, he adds "It's a new day tomorrow" or "Tomorrow's another day" or something like that, so I'm not sure it's so finale as to be a representation for eventual mortality is it is "just another day on earth".
