Floppy Breasts and Other Troubling Imagery

I was extremely upset when the old bubooshkas were celebrating their mammory glands. They looked like stale pancakes. I didn't quite make the connection as to their motivation for such debauchery.

I was intrigued by the bathing scene of the sisters - very troubling but comforting nonetheless.

Did anyone else belly-laugh when the doll with the pee pee began to "tea-bag" the guy with the long hair? He was very angry indeed.

This film requires a second viewing to get the flavour of its allegoryism.

I think the scene with the old women taking their, hmm, tops off was MEANT to be disturbing. I would be surprised if anyone had actually said that they were turned on by it. And not because these are old women with "floppy breasts," you see the old woman in The Mother naked too, but she doesn't provoke the same reaction because The Mother is a melodrama. 4, on the other hand, is a political allegory, firmly rooted in surrealism, and nearly everything that it chooses to show is MEANT to be disturbing. As a vegetarian, I myself was mostly disturbed with all the meat imagery. The scene where they're eating the roasted pork later in the film made me want to vomit.

But then, other things in 4, too, were DISGUSTING. I liked it as a movie though. The main "allegory" (since you refer to it), I think, revolves around the figure of the young woman, who clearly stands for Mother Russia--straight out of a Dostoyevsky novel (have you ever read Crime and Punishment?).

I also liked the brooding atmosphere in this movie. It truly does feel like a bad-bad dream!!!

Point well taken, thank you.

No, I haven't read CRIME AND PUNISHMENT. Is it good?

Sorry, but why is it vegetarians have to get angry about people eating meat? I mean, I don't get angry about people having vegetable platters. Whatever became of "Live and let live"?

"You idiot, that's condensation. It's on the outside!"

Live and let live???

Tell that to the living things whose carcasses you're eating.

No one's getting angry. Chill out.

He said he found it disturbing.

What I want to know is why the bathing scene of the sisters was troubling. I found it anything but troubling. But as for what your question, I find no other motivation for those images other than they're for the mere sake of being disturbing,

the 3 gals bathing, you call that disturbing? they were really gorguess and i dunno what glasses you wear to make you think that, but their breasts were pretty big, even for some russian chicks.

and noooo im not even refering to the old ladies that were taking their bras off and touching themselves and crap that aint my bag. at least the 3 chicks were very decent looking indeed.

mate admit it, you dont like real natural looking women, that you like em skinny and with no butts.

I didn't really get why this movie was shocking. I've seen a lot of the same imagery from movies in the 60's and 70's, especially The Panic Movement, which used very disturbing imagery. Be happy the pig wasn't slaughtered right in front of your eyes.

Old women naked, not shocking to me. Maybe I am jaded. But to me, a naked old person isn't gross at all. Or people eating a pig, even giving the head of the pig to other pigs. It could be that a lot of my family members are farmers, so eating or even killing an animal to me isn't shocking, it is what we do for food every day, but I guess if you just see meat in a store vs really thinking about it, then it is shocking?

I thought two of the crones were going to make out, after putting wine on each other.

I was happy this film showed real people with real bodies. I get so tired of Hollywood crap, where everyone is too thin and perfect, with surgery or otherwise. I liked the realness of the film, even though the situations were odd.
