The amusing thing here is that you appear to think my blame of the McCann child was that the parents actually did that to the child.
My insistance of them being to blame is not that they killed her, that their criminal neglegence led to her kidnapp and, I assume, death.
You say that I shouldn't have children but I will not argue that you should teach your children, or future children, to not be so assumptive of what somebody is meaning.
Also, don't do what the McCann's did and leave two children at such a very young age, inside a hotel room with the large patio door's unlocked while you're across the bloody road having drinks and a meal with bloody friends.

There was no criminal negligence involved. Had there been they would have been charged, especially since the Portuguese police, inefficient at best and totally inexperienced, would have had them in court immediately.
You obviously have no children, and you have obviously never been to Praia da Rocha or Lagos. Both are upmarket resorts, and have a reputation for total safety. While I agree that it was careless to leave the children unattended, and something I would never have done, that would be for reasons of safety not as a precaution against kidnap. The restaurant was yards from the apartment complex, and most people would have done what the McCanns did.

Let me point out something else - there are a lot of crimes that go unsolved, that go ignored. You call the portugese police inefficient at best and totally inexperienced in the same sentence as saying a guarantee that if something was wrong, they would have caught something. Police are human and the fact that their daughter went missing they were mount to have some empathy.
I've never been to Portugal, full stop. I've been to Spain, Italy, Germany and Japan and none of the places have stopped have a track record of kidnapping but a place doesn't have a record of it until it happens.

It was 120 meters away and the line of sight was proven to be blocked by trees. The distance alone is far enough but combined with the absolute impossiblity to see the room then no competent parent would do such a thing, or maybe I was just raised to have more common sense?
A senior policeman involved in the investigation, Gonçalo Amaral, already had black marks against him for screwing up a very similar case close by a few years before, as were other leading PJ officers concerned. If the PJ had found something against the McCanns they would indeed have whisked them into jail - the Algarve depends to a large extent on tourism, and this case posed a large threat. So they did entirely the wrong thing and made them take arguido status, which sent entirely the wrong message and was responsible for a lot of the anti feeling. The local police at Portimão are responsible for an area containing around 50,000 people, so you can guess at their crime levels. The GNR, the state police, are underpaid, corrupt and brutal. They're more used to dealing with the occasional druggie or drunk than anything.
