Plot Summary for
I Am Sam (2001)

Sam Dawson has the mental capacity of a 7-year-old. He works at a Starbucks and is obsessed with the Beatles. He has a daughter with a homeless woman; she abandons them as soon as they leave the hospital. He names his daughter Lucy Diamond (after the Beatles song), and raises her. But as she reaches age 7 herself, Sam's limitations start to become a problem at school; she's intentionally holding back to avoid looking smarter than him. The authorities take her away, and Sam shames high-priced lawyer Rita Harrison into taking his case pro bono. In the process, he teaches her a great deal about love, and whether it's really all you need.

It's this movie isn't it? A Bolly remake?
Exactly the same story but with Indians this time.

Absolutely, its a remake of 'I am Sam'. I dont know what the Indian writers do?...most of the hit bollywood movies are remakes of Hollywood movies. For exmaple : Sholay, Dil hai ki manta nahi etc...

reply

And the thing that pisses me off is that nowhere do they EVER credit the original storylines.

Yes, I don't remember seeing any reference to "I Am Sam" in the credits for this, though maybe I missed it. I don't get how they can be allowed to do re-makes without any acknowledgement.

I definitely thought so. I mean look at the name. Main Aisa Hi Hoon (This is the way I am) from I am Sam.

The reason Bollywood does this is they see what popular movies work in the US and then make millions off remakes in India. I mean the smaller communities in India don't necessarily get to see good Hollywood movies. ( well at least i think so )

The plot summary reeked of ripoff right from the first sentence.

Interesting thing is that they actually had three writers (including the new age popular director Anurag Kashyap of Dev D) to make this shameful ripoff.
