Fake pathos.

It's all in point of view. We are shown Pod is not like other boys by the film taking his point of view. Other boys do not see their grandmother as lizards, talking teddy-bears or find their fingers still tapping in sardine cans. These are all extraordinary events, and because this is all Pod's point of view, this makes him an extraordinary person. Pod is also exceptional because he sees something in Jin others don't, which is the whole point of the film.
