My guess was that it represents something in Thai culture.

Well, when Pod's grandmother warns him he'll grow a tail if he goes to work in Bangkok, she says it to warn him off life in the city, and to be a bit ghoulish. But, Pod worries about having a tail because he'll be the only one with it, and he'll consider himself a freak. Jin is different because when he tells her the story of his grandmother's warning, she says she thinks having a tail is SPECIAL and something that only special people can have. A sign of uniqueness. A precious commodity. But when Pod leaves Bangkok after his falling out with Jin, he returns to find that a tail has been turned into the latest trend, and EVERYONE has got one. Jin tries to get rid of hers, but fails, because when she realises everyone else has one, it's no longer a special thing. It's an everyday thing, and Jin doesn't want to be everyday. She WANTS to have a dream. Pod is then the only man in Bangkok without a tail. Instead of being a freak as he thought he'd be, he's more of a novelty, and becomes a celebrity. Meaning is attached to this meaningless thing by people who are obsessed with superficial things. And Pod never really looked for dreams of fame, or anything, and he finds himself annoyed by receiving it because he doesn't have a tail. Becoming a tail has become so fashionable to the point it's become unfashionable again, and people want to remove theirs. It is, quite a bit, about individuality, status symbols, and believing that meaning can be attached to objects.

Im not sure but I think it resembles a part of that we are all dogs, especially in the modern society where we are always a slave to something or somebody. The tail would be the tail of a dog. Maybe theres a greater meaning than this but thats what I think its about. However, why wouldnt he have a tail then as well? and why did everybody lose their tails as soon as he married, those two things, makes my theory confusing, Who knows the real reason though. Its an interesting movie, especially for a second movie its quite brilliant. Its not perfect and its not the most artistic either but enjoyable anyway. Id say about a 6.7 to 7 out of 10

in thai culture, people always refer to self absurd and selfish people or just upper class people in general as if they walk around with their tails point up the sky which refers to how dogs have their tails point up the sky when they are happy or when they want to express their power.
