Conroy's insights

Conroy was able to see that one boy was nearly deaf. Something, no one realized. The other teacher simply hit him because she thought he wasn;t listening. The part that sticks with me is the end when he says, "As for the Yamacraw children, I leave for them a single prayer, that the river be good to them in the crossing" as the boat leaves the island. He mentions a river and it was a place one could only reach by boat. It was what is now called a "truckstop town"
