The Water is Wide

I spent my honeymoon on Yamacraw Island(now called Dafuskie Island) this past summer. It sits behind Hilton Head Island, SC and Tybee Island, GA. It is one of the most beautiful(and hot!!!) places on earth. I've always loved the low country of South Carolina. I would urge everyone to go there sometime. We stayed at the Dafuskie Island Resort and Spa. You have to take a ferry over(no cars-passengers only!!!). You can rent a golf cart or bicycle @ the resort to get around. There are a few golf courses on the island and some incredibly huge homes.

I read the book years ago and really enjoyed it. I did not see "Conrack", but will have to see if I can find it on video. I enjoyed the movie last night, but thought it was a typical Hallmark presentation.

I've read all of Pat Conroy's novels, including "The Boo"(his first book).
I think you have to be a graduate of The Citadel to appreciate it. I've loved all of his other books. My favorite is "The Prince of Tides" and was really disappointed with the movie. "The Great Santini" is by far the best movie adaptation of one of his novels.

I have no idea. Yamacraw Village is still on the island. I'm wondering if they just referred to it as "Yamacraw". I have a lot of relatives in the Charleston area, I'll have to ask them the scoop.

I taped this movie to view later, but the preceding program ran long and consequently the ending was cut off. Will there be a re-broadcast? Or, better still, can you purchase/rent a dvd of this movie?

I love all of Pat Conroy's books and was really looking forward to seeing this movie. Thanks in advance for any information you can share.

It was always Daufuskie Island. Yamacraw was the fictional name.
