Geographically Challenged Movie

I know it is "just a movie" but you think the producers of the film could do a better job of making it more believable with the travel aspect.

They go from Port Arthur, Texas 10.5 hours north to Wichita. Okay, a little unbelievable. Then they leave Wichita and go through these snow covered mountains ... where are those at in Kansas and Eastern Colorado? Nowhere to be seen because they don't exist.

And why would they be going on I-70 toward Denver from Wichita? You would go to Oklahoma City and then West on I-40.

Since the main character really wanted to get to L.A. quickly, you think the movie people would write it so he'd get there the fastest way.
