Howdy!
The movie just finished and I briefly caught a quick glimpse of a blurb just before the actors started being listed. It was centered and 2 lines. The first line said:

In dedication (I think) of Big Sly
I can't remember the second line.....it's hard for me to read white print on black. }:-P

Who would Big Sly be?
I'm going to have to watch it again, which is not hard to do, it's a GOOD movie! :D

I noticed it too.

I think it's referring to a person who has passed on.

p.s. Laura, I'm truly grateful for your son's selfless service to our country and for your sacrifice as well. Military families have always amazed me, having grown up around many of them. I already speak Arabic, though. :)

after checking google Ifound that Big Sky Productions provided the animals for the film, possibly one of their animals died

Hi Laura,

Big Sky was the bald face gelding John Red eagle rode in the film -- he was my personal horse and best friend -- we lost him several months after filming. He became part of our family in Montana in 1997 and was used in a dozen movies, Ernest Borgnine rode him in "The Long Ride Home".

Hope your son is safe -- God Bless him and the others -- we owe them a ton.

Thanks Thadd! I'm sorry to hear you lost him.

We lost my husband's mare while living in Ekalaka, MT (s.e. corner) in 2004. She was nursing a 9 week old foal. We raised him and sold him as a yearling. My husband is Traumatic Brain Injured and didn't need to be riding a youngster. Moon was rock solid and I could trust her to behave when he was riding. Having Multiple Sclerosis, I can no longer ride horses.
We moved to south-central ID 6 months ago. To give the husband something to do, I got a mini mare that has been trained to drive. Once the weather turns nice (still nicer than Montana...but it's wet & cool still), he's headin' out! ;)

My son is safe....his ship is in dry dock for upgrades and repairs. He will be leaving Norfolk this summer for Great Lakes Naval Station (Chicago) where he will be a K-9 handler for the next 4 yrs. With the way our country is headed, I still worry...regardless of where he's at.
Thanks again for answering my question.

Hey Laura,

I just found this - a year later. Sorry about that. You must be in McCall-Donnelly area of Idaho, my in-laws have a cabin there. We were in the Bitterrot Valley of Montana for 10 years. Looks like we have another Western PALOMINAS starting this summer 2010 shoots in Santa Fe, NM.

That's okay....that's the beauty of the forums and internet...we get messages whenever written.

No, I'm not that far north. I am 17 miles west of Twin Falls, 19 miles east of Hagarman and 110 miles east of Boise in south-central Idaho. When I was stationed in the Air Force at Mtn Home in the 80's, I went to McCall area a few times. Haven't been up there since as my husband has just had one thing after another go on with his health since we moved in Nov 08. My daughter and her family is moving in with me this Thurs to help me out. Hopefully we can run up to that area before winter. I'm afraid it's going to be vastly changed like the Bitterroot valley did over the past 20 yrs.

Good, "old fashioned" Westerns are greatly needed and really enjoyed. How long before it comes out?
