read the book

I read his book about 8 years ago. I didnt know who he was. My dad had the book (Naval Academy '59 alum) and I borrowed it after reading the flap. When I was finished (I couldnt put it down) I couldnt believe someone could go thru all of that and come out a functioning person. There was a part in the book, if I remember correctly about how he was worried about his wife seeing his broken body when he came home and how he would not be the same physically. And she was in a bad car accident (while he was a pow) with permanent damage herself and was worried about the same thing when he would see her. Thats just one little glimpse of the human, the movie in no way gives his story justice. He is a fascinating, flawed real person. Go McCain, hope he wins....

I rented the movie on the basis that 1) Christian Bale is a badass 2) That I really have trouble wrapping my mind around the whole Vietnam War and why we were there, but then again my adopted cousin was one of the babies to be airlifted out during the fall of Saigon and 3) It looked interesting. So with that said it was a great movie and I would recommend it. And I too support Mr. McCain.

Whether or not you support Sen. McCain for president, after reading the book and seeing the movie, you have to know that what you see is what you get. I cannot comprehend how a man could endure and emerge victorious as he did. He has his flaws, but he came through when it really counted. And isn't that what we need in all our leaders?

I totally agree with your post teacherdan. I may vote for Obama....I haven't decided yet ....for sure I'm voting for the man and not the party....but anyway. When it comes to this book and film, it is absolutely admirable what McCain tolerated and even became a strong man in spite of it all. Something has to be said for his character. I hope he can pull his boot straps up and get back on track in the polls. I wish politics wasn't so dirty these days. That hurts them both too much.
