postscript?

Does anyone know what has happend to the boys featured in this movie? I just saw the movie in Baltimore and at the end of the showing, Montre, one of the boys featured in the movie was present and answering questions. Wondering what happened to everyone else?

I was wondering the same thing since this was filmed in 02-03. What is Montre up to now? What kinds of questions were people asking? Would be great to hear :)

Saw the film here today at Loyola College in Baltimore. In addition to students like myself, there was great attendance by Baltimore families (black and white), community leaders, all in all a very diverse crowd. Because of the local proximity, 12 of the "Boys of Baraka" were present for a Q and A after the film. Partially because the event was free of charge, I'd say there was at least 300 people present, if not more.

The questions dealt with their experiences mostly, with some questions from locals , including some local teachers, about the struggling public schools system in Baltimore. Very inspiring.

Just saw the DVD and there are extras that feature on the boys. Apparently, their experiences at Baraka has had a long-term effect on them. Devon (the aspiring preacher) is still continuing with his ministry; Montrey is 11th grade (I think?) and wants to pursue either acting in LA or become a math teacher; Romesh is 10th grade in high school and is living with friends (I am making a wild guess and say he is living with Montrey?); Richard is pursuing his GED and wants to work as a Corrections Officer.

That is a testimony of how a desire to help can change the lives of innercity kids.

i also saw the dvd "where are they now" feature, but didn't see the info as optimistically as you did.

devon is still continuing with his ministry, but it also said he has aspirations to be an actor or director, not a preacher. :(

it didnt say anything about montrey at baltimore city college, leading me to believe he didnt finish there. :(

The PBS series P.O.V. is featuring Boys of Baraka tonight at 10pm and there recent footage of Devon, Richard and Montrey plus interviews with the directors. The PBS website also has lots of update information on the boys. http://www.pbs.org/pov/pov2006/boysofbaraka/
