The Holocaust of European cinema

That's this movie is all about. Sad to say.

reply

Doesn't get what you mean... Care to explain?

reply

What's so difficult to get? The European cinema is in a very very very bad state, it is dying in convulsions (as this movie) that is unbearable to watch! Makes sence? Just think about its glorious history, about French Golden Age (1930-ies) brilliant cinematography, Bresson, Bunuel, Pasolini, New Wave, etc etc etc? Indeed, a very numerous bad movies allways existed - as a background for the masterpieces, now the plain mediocrity is seen as an extraordinary artistic event ("Four Months, Three Weeks &.." whatsoever) What do you think?

reply

there are still some good movies
this one wasnt excellent, but it was good
of course, it shows all the cruelty, etc. and it may make you cry, but it isnt a great movie
please, dont get me wrong
it is very good, but it isnt a chef-d'oeuvre
but there are some good european movies
in England, they made recently some very nice comedies and also La vie en Rose and Le Papillon et le scaphandre were also well made.
the italian cinema is going down, but i dont think so for the french and british one

This is a made for TV movie, a low budget production, yet they manage to do a very good job at it.

I do not know where you are from, but I live in the US and I have yet to see a made for TV movie of that quality int he US.

True, if it was a made for the theater movie, it would look a bit under-produced, yet it managed to be much better than more than 90% of the made for the theater movies.

I totally agree with this. It is a TV Movie, we can't forget that and being a production for TV it is a totally amazing piece of work.

reply

Ok now that's you've developped...

1) Holocaust is far too strong and unappropriate a word
2) Never forget this was not a movie AT ALL but a piece made FOR TV, hence the 'tv touch', yet it moved so many people that it made an international tour of festivals and for a tv movie, it's definitely great...
3) I do not share your opinion on European cinema.

Can you give me some good examples so I would enjoy it and change my opinion?

reply

French cinema is my particular area and in the last year I have rated the following as top tier and as good as any time in history:

Le Voyage du Ballon Rouge, Le Papillon et le scaphandre, Chansons d'Amour, L'Heure D'Ete, Actrices, La frontière de l'aube, Elle s'appelle Sabine, 35 rhums, Un barrage contre le Pacifique
