An ok boutique film that could have been better

I can't believe what passes off as independent excellence on Sundance Channel these days. Cliched tone and music used in the movie set in India. The female actresses had no personality(was it the fault of the amateur first time writer/ director, I dont know). The 2006 scenes were drawn out way too much without much payoff. We could have used more indepth exploration of the 1980s dynamics between the characters.

I could care less what unfolded as there didn't seem to be much at stake in any of the interactions between the characters. The guy who drives Kelli Garner to the palace was about one of the very few characters with any potential other than the Justin Theroux character. Both women were just ciphers. The male characters were much better except for Langella's pointless character.
