Explain why a one-handed man would carry a bolt-action rifle, please

This made no sense and was a constant distraction in the movie. Can someone explain why Said would be carrying a bolt-action rifle if there was no way in hell he could possibly fire it?

I asked the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

Good question. The filmmakers probably realized their error and gave him the pistol in the final scene to 'cover up' this fallacy. Granted, if the aformentioned fate of his hand at 15 was true, he probably was adept in utilizing his left hand. It would be difficult, but I tried it with my Kar98 and it can be done, but it is very difficult. Would have been better if they issued him with a thompson or had the sense to pick up a German Schmeisser. Got to love Hollywood, even in foreign countries.

I didn't even realise he had one hand, shows how great the film was.

In the movie he has a hand either in his trouser pocket or jacket pocket. I don't know if this was from the start of the movie (when they were in Morocco) but when they arrive in Europe it's noticable.

I think people should get over this. Give it some slack. The actor who played Sain, Jamel Debbouse is also one of the Producers. I honestly didn't notice the one arm, at first. There is a lot going an...Only when it slows down, do you notice these little inaccuracies. The same actor was in a movie called Angela.
A great film...and he saves a woman who is almost twice his size with one arm. It's the Movies, man. Fantasy-land. Enjoy.

If he was one of the producers then maybe he should've held his hand up, took one for the team and passed the acting role to an actor better suited to the part.

reply

There's only one real answer: because they wanted to get Jamel Debbouze, probably the most famous French-Arab actor, in the movie, and he has that handicap in real life.

It can be done one-handed. Not very easy (I also tried it to see) or accurate without a LOT of practice, but still possible.
I'd not likely put him in the front line myself, but then I'm not a French Officer in WW2, so can't comment further.
