He was an absolute joke in this movie and almost single handedly ruined it. Actually I don't know what was worse, him or the awful plot. They should just call this movie: ITS RIIIGHHHTTT HEEERRREEEEE!
Connoly screams that about 100 times in hopeless fashion. I tried watching this again after like 7 years and it's even worse than I remember. It's honestly a comedy.
What do you think is wrong with the plot?
sharefor starters it's the first assignment for fox and dana in nearly 10 years and the writers choose an organ stealing group capturing young women and experimenting/mutilating them as the plot. I'm sorry but that idea in itself is a huge letdown imo. even it were to be just a random episode in the series it still would've been weak. and then you have the pedo psychic connolly who was absolutely stupid. this movie ended up being more of a comedy. bad plotting bad acting.

Meh - it wasn't all that bad. 1 thing to remember is CC had only a small budget around 20 million and that doesn't go far in movies these days. I bet he had less wiggle room with that budget to make a movie in 2008 than he did with a million or 2 for an ep of the show in 2000!! Plus there is all the ground he has gotta cover about who they are and what they are and where have they been and what are they doing now etc. That story isn't the best thing CC has ever come up with but it is not the worst either and the movie looks great. I was just happy to get Mulder and Scully back!
I think with that budget he still could've come up with something better but, his main focus was the relationship between Mulder and Scully I suppose like you point out. It was nice to see them after 8 years but the movie just left a bad taste with me. I am sure that the show reboot will be amazing in january. I cant wait and I've been watching so many episodes again and revisiting all of the greatness.

The choise for CC would have been make a 20m dollar movie that makes the fans happy but nobody else understands or make a movie for as many people as poss. coz he will always be thinking about bringing back the show or more movies. He had to know in 2008 that the XF was not hot anymore and most people know not much about it. If he made a fan service movie most of the audience would not know what the hell was going on. There aren't enough of us fans to cover the budget so that would have been a bad plan. I.W.T.B. didn't earn a huge profit but it would have made a _lot_ less as a movie for fans only.
shareSee idk i think it may have been similar to Fight the Future type success if he would've made a fan type myth movie. However that mythology was all intertwined into the series, and more people were into it during that period and probably were watching the show and following the story. I think after the show reboot comes in january, way more people will be revisiting the old episodes. They are also doing 201 episode count down to the new season which has probably introduced some new fans.

The word is Fox look at this new show as a test - if it does O.K. they will let CC make more movies. That is what it is all really about.

CC wanted out of the show to go make XF movies way back around F.T.F. but Fox had him on contract and by the time he was free to make movies it was way after the show peak and it was not possible to get much of a budget. Maybe if Fox had gone to a movie franchise in the '90s it could have gone on that way with great movies instead of these lame super hero franchises.
