IWTB vs BIRDMAN : budget, Box office and video numbers

BIRDMAN was a huge critical success. There was a lot of hype about it, and some even talked about a box office success...

IWTB was in the contrary a box office and critical disappointment.

So, it's interesting to note that (the numbers here will use the inflated 2015 numbers) :

BUDGET

- IWTB cost in production 29 M $ (32.5 M $ in 2015) while BIRDMAN cost "only" 18 M $
- IWTB cost in promotion 6 M $ (6.7 M $ in 2015) while BIRDMAN officially cost 4 M $.
The truth is that it cost way more, since he was nominated for the academy awards. At least 15 million dollars more were spent in the AA campaign.

TOTAL : 39.2 millions for IWTB vs 39 millions for BIRDMAN.
Conclusion : IWTB = BIRDMAN total budget

BOX OFFICE WW TOTAL

X FILES : 77 M $ WW. Ratio : 1.97
BIRDMAN : 103 M $ WW. Ratio : 2.6
Conclusion : both movies are box office disappointment (a ratio of 3 is needed to make money in theatres)

BOX OFFICE FOREIGN

IWTB : 53 M $
BIRDMAN : 60.8 M $
Conclusion : with all the marketing campaign, BIRDMAN outgross IWTB by only 7 M $

US HOME VIDEO REPORTED SALES

IWTB : 16 M (dvd) + an estimated 2.4 M in blu ray = 18.4 millions
BIRDMAN : 2.1 M (dvd) + 3.4 M BLU RAY = 5.5 millions
Conclusion : BIRDMAN was a complete flop on home video while IWTB was a moderate success.

Says the person who has obviously spent a lot of time doing research to prove that something they say they want to happen won't possibly happen.

Nobody understand what you're saying.
I think these two movies in terms of budget and revenues can be compared to one another. I don't want to prove anything else, this was my tribute to IWTB.

You just keep telling yourself that.

Adjust home video for deflation. Selling 5.5 million now is like selling 20 million in 2008.
