Odd choice for a movie isn't it? Why didn't they follow up on the shows finale? Why didn't they pick up when Mulder and Scully were on the run from the supersoldiers? Instead we get a monster of the week episode. Doesn't make sense to me. They had the chance to continue with the story arc. Maybe the budget was tight. It was definitely cheaper than the first movie.
shareTo cover both sides of this in 2008 and a number of years after Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz claimed it was the story they wanted to tell. But then a year ago now at least Chris finally came out and told the fans that FOX didn't give them enough of a budget to tell the Mythology story the way they wanted to they chose to do a MOTW in the hopes that it would generate enough interest to get another film with a bigger budget. Unfortunately it did not, which is a shame as I liked this movie but now we have Season 10 so I can't really complain.

It took me a long time to warm to this film. It was especially weird to see Billy Connelly in a role with such little warmth or humour to it. MRS BROWN was one thing, but this one was completely out there.

shareWhat mythology UFO movie were they hoping to present? Because this recent 2016 miniseries, also officially known as Season 10, seems to have cheap special effects and overdone comic relief between episodes 1 & 6, especially episode 3, why use that money doing comic relief, instead of making some really good mytharc episodes?
shareWell 6 episodes was enough for a full mythology story. Season 11 better be all mythology based if its 6 episodes again, thats plenty.
I hope the x files ends after at most season 12. If not 11.
All I know is Chris Carter wanted to make a whole series of X-FILES films, and since 2012 was still five years away, he probably went with a standalone thriller and then the third film would have been about the 2012 alien invasion. But that doesn't matter anymore.
