X-Files fans shot themselves in the foot

If you think about it, all the fans of The X-Files should have said they loved this movie and seen it at the cinemas and bought it on DVD, even if they didn't like it, because that would have increased the odds of them making more movies. All the fans bashing the film and then saying they want a better, mythology based film, are shooting themselves in the foot because they won't fund a new movie now that this got such a bad reception.

We did the logic thing, it is him the one who had no reason to do a lame monster of the week episode instead of the big alien invasion

The stupid have one thing in common. They alter the facts to fit their views not the other way

reply

You can't please 'fans' ever!

reply

It doesn't really matter. Everyone knows the X-Files just ripped off Spaced. Only liars will even pretend otherwise.

reply

Yeah but X Files never ripped off Spaced as much as BBT ripped off Spaced. Big Bang Theory = Spaced by and for people who completely lack the 'originality gene'. BBT = $1 shop version of Spaced. Guaranteed to fall apart in the car before you even get home.

It was Chris Carter's fault.

Why in any sane mind would he think for a movie sequel, SIX YEARS AFTER the shows CANCELLATION it was a good idea to do a stand-alone monster-of-the-week styled movie? It should have been mythology.

I was highly scared they would fully cancel and reboot/remake/reimagine--- whatever it because of this movie. I'm glad however they are bringing it back, even if for six episodes.

reply

It didn't need to be mythology, although that would have worked too.

But it should've been something interesting. Something paranormal or mysterious. It was next to nothing. For me, it's not even a monster-of-the-week movie. Where's the monster? Oh, that thing you can't even see properly and does nothing...

It wasn't illogical that Carter didn't to a mythology movie. That was discussed to death. It was very hard to figure out something new about it that would work.

The monster aspect of IWTB was not the two-headed dog if that was what you were referring to.

reply

Really? That's disappointing.

reply

Really? You didn't catch the whole modern-day Frankenstein aspect of the story?

reply

What Frankenstein aspect? I was waiting for a giant two-headed frog to emerge and the Mulder to fight with it in the finale. It never happened. There are far less two-headed opponents in movies nowadays than we deserve anyway, it could've filled the gap. A missed opportunity.

but they went with such a horrible and idiotic storyline that they could have very well just gone with more Mythology EVEN if it was discussed to death because what we got was just plain garbage.

I would have accepted more rehashed mythology stuff... better than some stupid 2 headed dog

reply

I agree it was close to the absolute minimum what they did.

Still, it is defensible why they didn't choose the mythology. A quality stand-alone episode seemed easier to make from a small budget. They screwed it up big time, but that is another matter.

reply

they could have done mythology with a small budget, just like one of those Super Soldier episodes. they didn't have that much to them...
or the episodes in Russia with the black goo. Mythology didn't have to be CGI Spaceships and big budget effects and sets.

they could have made the movie dealing with Mythology but stay small, because they did in the show all the time

reply

Yes, they could have done that. They've probably thought what they did on television wouldn't be enough and a feature film about the mythology would raise high expectations about visuals. So they wanted to keep it on a smaller scale. It didn't work out in the end.

Have you seen the new episodes? I've only seen the first one (don't say anything about the second please), but I'm OK with it. Although it's nothing really new, it's back on track at least. It doesn't feel anything like this movie or the last few seasons.

reply

NO,i think FOX give a shot in his on foot by giving a 30 million budget and releasing the movie in the summer 1 week later of the dark knight, the biggest movie that year who also destroyed de box office.
Even David complained about the date release,It should be in the fall and not in the summer.
I mean The X Files put Fox network on the map, star trek in 2009 had a 150 million budget, so why not the x files?
