The most 'unexpectedly great' sequel of all time?

I remember when I saw this on the shelf at the video store years back, I chuckled to myself and thought, "Why make a sequel to a forgettable movie?" I mean, Undisputed wasn't terrible, but it was hardly a box office or critical smash. On top of that, there was no Rhames or Snipes. Then, I ended up catching the last fight when it was on cable one night and I was blown away. I made sure I caught the full movie when it aired again and couldn't believe how awesome it was. I still can't think of a better sequel to an average movie that had a lower budget, less star power and was a DTV.

Oh, dude, definitely see it if you haven't! You don't really need to see the first. This one is connected almost in name only. Yea, the prison theme remains but it's more backdrop than anything. White is Rhames' character, again, sort of in name only. Stylistically, it's completely different. Great fight scenes and choreography. Undisputed III is arguably even better.

I am totally the same. I was lent this movie they are made and take ages to watch it but it completely blew me away. The most underrated martial arts movie ever made. The five things, the setting, the characters and even the writing is pretty good.

I do think the final match was not long enough. Undisputed 3 had a much more EPIC final match. I think the final match should have been a few rounds longer and Chambers should have had to suffer through more abuse including maybe a ten count before ultimately winning.

I think Undisputed 1 also had too short a final fight.
