Check the dead Russian's phone (plot hole)

Douglas was protecting teh First Lady of the United States for chrissake, so he obviously has to be smart...After he shoots the Russian in the apartment...and he finds the passports, money etc...The line on the cell phone is still open. He makes a call to Eva and tells her the location. All he had to do was take the guy's phone, and check the phone log...He would have gotten track of calls made and received...Dumb dumb dumb...Surely the Russian didnt come back from the dead to delete his call history. He leaves the phone behind. What a dumbass writer they had for the screenplay.

To be fair the suspects wouldn't have expected him to leave it there unattended along with their firepower and passports, and so would never have returned. The writer is a hack though

reply

That still means, he can atleast note the number of one last call he was holding...and jackpot...he would have had it, by tracing calls...He could have still left the phone back there...

reply

The Russians were probably using a burner phone and ditched it as soon as their business was done. It wouldn't have been much use to anybody afterwards, feds or otherwise.

They would've been idiots if they kept their current phones.

Granted the phones that the Russians were using were CDMA models that are only used by Sprint at the time, which is a huge mistake in the prop department. Probably the easiest tracked phone ever.

He leaves the phone behind.
... with all the other evidence, after making the call to Marin, because he was expecting it all to be there for the arriving agents. But the Secret Service find the evidence (including the phone) and body of the assassin were removed before they arrived. 🐭

I need to watch this again now to recall this. Thank you.
