These movies are terrible

I just can't get into them, I guess because I started reading the books back in '97 and stopped at "The Indwelling" because the next book wasn't out yet.

But recently started reading them again, and rather than start all over, I went the lazy route and rented the movies.

I wish they just kept the script a little closer to the book.
I realize they can't be word for word, but really, is it that hard to at least come close.

Just my opinion.

I haven't seen World at War yet, but after the first two, I have no intention of doing so.

reply

they are great they go by what the Bible says then don`t watch them

reply

Would you mind restating that in a clear manner, using proper grammar and punctuation? How do you expect anybody to think you have an intelligent opinion if you can't even utilize your own language properly?

OK, so what's the speed of dark?

reply

They're not great, and I wouldn't compare them to the bible.
I did watch the first two.
What was your point?

reply

Heck, these movies are BETTER than the Bible, because you can finish them in less than two hours.

reply

The movies have gotten progressively better. That said, they are pretty good, but not great. If they followed the books it would be a lot better. But how many good Christian movies are there? The Moment After and Six: The Mark come to mind, but others such as Gone are horrible in my opinion. Also, the Left Behind movies are one of the few movies that look at what happens after the rapture, rather than the actual rapture itself. Keep watching bro, the movies will get better. World At War is really good.

reply

Alright, fair enough.
I'll give it another chance.

reply

Six: The Mark Unleashed is a really bad example to use, unless you are trying to show the extent to which christian films fail.

Here here. I rented Six: The Mark Unleashed the other day. Couldn't finish it. Left behind: World at war was just like the other two.
I think I'm just too spoiled by the mainstream movies anymore.
The moment after 2 was also disappointing, and I don't purposefully try to be negative. I just didn't like any of them. I did, however, like the actor (don't know his name) but he was in both movies, Blonde dude that played the unbeliever in six and the f.b.i. agent in the moment after 2. He acted well.

They are awful, the books are really good and could of been a fantastic movie series someday when sfx and sequals got so popular that you could make a movie about each book but I feel like this movies have ruined that from ever happening.

Don't ever call me a kubrick hater, or I will have my droogs beat you to death.

Protestant Christian films fail. There are a lot of good Catholic films out there. An atheist's opinion.

I am on the road less traveled...

reply

If you follow the books closely then most likely you will not find the movies very good at all. First of all, the movies stretch too far from the story lines in the books and its kinda hard to get around that. But if you were not into the books or never read them, then yes, you would probably enjoy the movies.

I personally I love the books and when I saw the movies I could not even put into words how disappointed I was. Now, I understand movies can not follow books word for word or scene for scene but they could have done better than this.

Also, while I havent yet seen this third installment, I think it stretches WAY too far from the books with the whole sickness thing. Takes me right out of even wanting to see it but I will give it a go.

reply

I've completely given up on the movies,
However I took up reading the books again and can't put them down.
Definitely the most exciting christian books i've ever read.

reply

Interesting.

Your standards are high enough to recognize the movies are terrible, but you can't see the same layer of crap in the books.

Fascinating. I recommend you read some of this to help you understand what awfully bad writers LeHaye and Jenkins are....

reply

Is that really fascinating to you?

I don't really want to get into a silly online argument with you about my opinion, because we wouldn't get anywhere. That's because it's my opinion.
I've read lots of the articles on slacktivist that dig into why buck is a horrible reporter and how through 50 pages or so, not much happens, and how the timelines are off when switching between multiple characters.

I don't care.

I'm not an editor or a publisher, so I could care less how "awfully bad writers" as you called them, should write.

I enjoy the books.

reply

im with you, i didnt matter to me either, i mean ive always been interested in apocalyptic scripture so i, of course, found the series highly entertaining.

OK, so what's the speed of dark?

reply

you cant know that for sure because the bestsellers lists dont take into account christian book stores

reply

or any bookstores....

The best seller list is based on the amount that stores order from the distributor, not how much they sell in stores. The distribution for the Left Behind series is distributed the same way as any other book. Whether the store is Christian has no way of effecting the results of the best seller list.

So now the New York Times discriminates against the Christian bookstores? What imagination you guys have......

DFJ,

I hated the Ring....... that's why I didn't watch the Ring 2.

I hated the Grudge. That was the biggest reason I didn't watch the Grudge 2.

I hated Open Water. Think I will watch the sequel?

If you don't believe the material and hated the first movie as much as you said you did in the forums for that movie, why on earth did you watch any of the sequels?

reply

Niteshift, I think you fail to understand what's going on here.

If the Left Behind books or movies were just entertainment like the other things you mention, you would have a point. But they aren't. These movies and books are a lot more than that. They are an "I told you so" fantasy which I believe are intended to galvanize the faithful into a more pro-active and aggressive movement against those they think are hellbound.

They are Premillinnial Dispensationalists and Domionists. They believe that that their salvation is contingent on creating the Kingdom of Heaven here on Earth. Jesus will not come back if gays are allowed to marry or people use condoms. They will not be saved if you me or other people are allowed to live our lives outside of their rules. (This message is toned down a great deal in the movies, but if you read the books, you can't miss it.)

Therefore I watch these movies because I wish to know my enemy better. (I don't call them my enemy preemptively, they have labeled me and people like me as their enemy.) The Left Behind world is so bizarre and foreign to what I see in the real world that I feel it is imperative to understand how these people make sense of it.

I suggest you read this analysis of the first book to understand why I see such danger in it. THis analysis is written by a devout Christian who, like me, feels that the creators of Left Behind have very Earthly motives behind what they do.

BTW DFJ, you might really dig that link if you know any of the details of the Left Behind story.

I agree with Brucesmells420 about the books. These books are awesome, and follow the Bible very accurately. Even though they did not follow the books I did enjoy the movies and have watched them all several times. The 1st one was closer to the book than the other 2, but still wasn't nearly as close as I would have liked. But the 3rd one, although there is absolutely nothing other than the double wedding that even resembles the books, was a very good film in my opinion...for a couple of reasons. 1st, I thought the story line was well written and well portrayed by the actors. But mostly, I thought it was great because, unlike the 1st movie (and I can't remember about the 2nd), it plainly gave the gospel message! Without giving anything away, the scene between Buck and the President in the White House was awesome! The 1st movie hardly even referred to Jesus Christ, which is one of the main reasons the writers, Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins, were upset with the movie. But this movie made several references to Jesus (not just "God")...and that one scene said it all! I love the books, but so what if the movies don't follow the story line of the books exactly? They tell the story to lost people! I would like to see them closer to the books, too, but at least they are getting the message across to a lost and dying world!

I have watched all three movies and I have read through the first three books. I have noticed this as i was reading. Although in the first movie it does somewhat pull away from the books on how fast Buck, Clhoe, Rayford, and Bruce meet eachother and all become belivers. One thing that just shows is how when you try to take a book that is over 200 pages long and try to make a movie it shows how the movie people cut some corners on things instead of doing things to match the first book exactly. On the second movie I have noticed it is based on the events of the first thru 17th chapter of the second book but one thing i did notice was missing was they did not have Chaim Rosenwieg appear in the second movie or have the two witnesses at the Wailing wall contact Rabbi Ben Judah after he gave his speech. Plus in both the combination of the first two movies they did cut out the scene of where Buck gets accused of not being at the meeting where Carpathia shoots those two men and he gets sent to Chicago to deal with Verna. It shows how those movie people cut corners. Now on the third movie I have noticed besides the final two chapters of the second book it also has some of the events of the first 3 to 5 chapters of the third book. You see what matches up is when Rayford and Buck have the double wedding. Then what matches is Hattie revealing she is pregnant. The other things is how there is that group of people that the President gets with that want to attack Carpathia and it shows how Carpathia is commanding people to drop bombs on Washington D.C. New York, and other major cities just like in the books. Then it also shows what matches in the third book how Raford is no longer flying that 757 called "Global Community One" because it shows him at an airport hangar that has a bunch of other design aircraft. So you see if they were to make a fourth movie it would have to have the scene where Buck would use a fake I.D. and go overseas to get Rabbi Ben Judah out of Israel and back ot America. One thing I can say is all the rest of you need to do is slowly read some of the chapters in the second and third books and you will see how when they made that third movie they copied some of the things from the third book along with the final two chapters of the Second book. The only difference is when Bruce Died. One thing I can say is how just a minor change does not make much difference right there but I do hope if they make a 4th movie it will have the big action scene of Buck going after the Rabbi and with the help of their pilot friend Ken Ritz they will be able to get out of Israel and back to America.

reply

This is the only one I've seen, but it would be a hell of a lot better if it had better acting and a bigger budget.

"Vampires will never hurt you."

reply

Yeah, it's definitely not the best acting,
but if they just put a little more time into the sets, it would have helped.

reply

To be fair, though, the books they're based on are pretty bad too.

reply

I hated the movies but found this one to be the most watchable, if only for the slightly improved acting and some decent action scenes.
