liked the movie too. one thing that was not convincing for me at all, was the reason for Degas to kill the couple. They seen his partner Nix breaking some glass in the real estate office and himself standing by. So what?
Police been informed by the couple afterwards, as Degas, pro that he is, would know. So no reason left to silence them.
Rourke's performance was badass.

I almost got the feeling that habit more than anything else was behind the drive to kill them. In spite of that, I also enjoyed the movie and it is currently on my purchase list. :)

He needs to kill the couple because they could place him near Detroit at the time of the Mafia hit at the beginning. Seems pretty flimsy to me but hey its as good a reason as any to kill someone in the movies today. Not a great movie but better than a lot of crap I see getting national releases today, surprised it went strait to DVD.

Blackbird was so funny going about saying "I have to kill her. She saw my face." I think it kinda became a bad habit with him. Going to the store: "Gotta kill the cashier, she saw my face." A squirrel passes by. He draws his gun. Richie: "What are you doing?" Bird: "Gotta kill the squirrel. It saw my face." cockroaches, whatever...

I saw the movie on an Aer Lingus flight from Ireland to San Francisco. I thought it was engrossing. The acting is top notch, and the director keeps things moving at a good pace. JGL is fantastic, as usual, as the most loathsome character he's ever likely to play. Diane Lane and Thomas Jane have great chemistry, and Mickey Rourke is surprisingly good as the hit man with (almost) no conscience. I think that the lack of release for this film had nothing to do with its quality, and everything to do with Weinstein Company financial troubles.

It's a shame. It's a good film that I believe would have done well.

I agree. It deserved better. Great movie. Diane Lane was excellent (as always!)

I agree, the movie was very entertaining. Rourke and Lane were terrific as always. Joseph Gordon-Levitt reminded me of Heath Ledger so much in this movie.

Mickey carried the show but it didn't make sense that a guy like his character a hit man for the Toronto Mafia would take on a character like the psycho played by JGL. That's when it started to go downhill. Rourke supposed to be a hit man that desires no attention on himself and then brings a loudmouth to the table. The only reason I watched was because of Mickey and Thomas Jane as well as Diane Lane and her beautiful body and face. And that opening song by Low, "Monkey Dies" was perfect to open it up.
