The OP didn't ask for proof, they asked what happened.

First of all he had absolutely no trouble talking about his psychopathic actions in front of Black Bird. Had he killed her, he would've happily said so.

Not enough? Fair enough, here's a tiny little detail; you are maintaining that he killed the mother, but for some reason no one bothered to inform Diane Lane's character that her mother had been found murdered in her living room? What, even after they thought Black Bird was dead and they returned home, still no one said, "Oh btw way, your mom was murdered while you were away."?

Or maybe they just didn't bother to show the scene where the FBI/police inform them that she was dead? Ridiculous, but for the sake of argument, did it look like they were grieving over the brutal murder of the mother? No it didn't.

Even this film doesn't have plot holes that huge.

He didn't kill her, because we see Wayne talking to her on the phone when Carmen is preparing to leave Missouri(which is about 10 minutes after the backrub scene).

he just gave her a back rub. that's it. that's why when bird asks him "what did you do?" he replied nothing, just gave her a back rub. bird thought at first he might of killed/raped the old lady. he's crazy enough to do it. but then he's also crazy enough just to give a old lady a back rub too. he did say something along the lines of doing it for his own grandma. maybe it brought back old happy memories of when he had a family. plus it helps build trust incase they have to talk to her again in the future for more info.

No he did not kill her. Proof: at the end of the movie it was the mom telling the gangsters over the phone that the couple will return to the old home the next day. Therefore the two gangsters were waiting for them in the old house.

No, he didn't kill her. Remember, Carmen's/Diane's mother called them the morning they were leaving the safe house to return back home. Thomas Jane answers and hands the phone to Carmen/Diane who guestures that she doesn't want to talk, so Wayne/Thomas Jane talked to her about their breaking up, says Carmen should be back home "by breakfast" and said the word "Mom" in the end. The hit men call the mother on the phone and find out that Carmen's returning to the house "by breakfast", then they meet her at the house "with breakfast"*.

He might have fixed her back, but I think he gave her a good old doggy-style tune up too, in honor of all his beloved "Foster Mothers"...

*They probably thought "breakfast" in the oven with the bell was a cute idea, but realisticly, she would have smelled food cooking and not entered. They had her standing in the kitchen for goodness sake and she didn't smell it cooking!
