What a piece of CRAP (SPOILERS)

This movie makes no sense at all. It's all about senseless violence.

An experienced killer picks up some low life wannabe criminal because he reminds him of his little brother. Then follows him in his stupid plan to stick up a real estate agent. And from there, they start killing everybody... ??? WTF ?
Two people saw them at the real estate office, so, of course, they MUST die ! They're witnesses ! Wow, that's smart. From that point on, everybody who lays eyes on them must die.

Just plain DUMB.

This is a bad movie. Like the crap Steven Seagal is doing these days. Can't believe this was a Weinstein production.

reply

You're right, very much so. This is Seagal material, definitely.

I'm always amazed at how some actors can get away with making such *beep* movies and still their career remains OK. Like Rourke here. The guy went on to "The Wrestler" afterwards, ffs.

Seagal wouldn't do this movie because they refused to make his character Degas a hero.

jeezaas, the movie is terrible, so a proffesional mafia assassin cant approach a house quietly and deal with one woman inside of it?? then at the end of the movie he keeps the woman on gunpoint with the unarmed guy by the door, and what does he do? He waits until the guy goes to the car for a shotgun, than leaves the woman behind in a house filled with weapons, bull****. The movie had a great start, which was wasted terribly. Too bad, cause I like Mickey Rourke. Mafia assasin my a$$...

jane, lane, rourke was good. almost saves the movie.

These assassins were dumb as *beep*. Understandable in the case of the young one, but nobody lives that long working for the mob while being so *beep* careless.

The problem is that their actions are poorly motivated.

Why does he kill the chick in the shower? Because she saw his face? What nonsense. If the government gets to her, they're going to ask about her relationship to the new boss, not some lowly, dumbass assassin. Hell, they wanted Armand/"Blackbird" so they could use him to take down the new boss.

Now this is so supposed to establish (set up) his anxiety towards people seeing his face, which is suppose to then motivate murdering Diane Lane and her husband. Again, the solution there is worse than the problem. Moreover, she identified him to the police, who have a record of him (they had the black and white photo of Rourke). It's not like he's some super-secret hitman.

Midway through Rourke fakes his own death in order to "buy" some time. So what does that mean exactly? Dental records take a couple of weeks to come back? How does he know what his time horizon is? If the FBI is reasonably confident they can go back to their lives, then doesn't that suggest they're satisfied with the investigation into his death? That means Rourke ought to have left the estranged couple alone and high-tailed it. Who cares if she can identify him if he's a ghost.

We're supposed to see Rourke's character is not a total monster, as evidenced by the fact he allows her to go upstairs unattended. Why? She grabbed a frickin' shotty. Did they not search the rooms thoroughly enough before hand? Yeah, who on earth checks under the bed?

The movie had decent enough setups and payoffs, I suppose, (the bullet in the gun, the deer hunting stuff) but to what end? Everybody came off as unbelievably stupid.

reply

Ah, I get it now. Thanks for the explanation. But why did they kill the Indian? That *beep* makes no sense at all!

reply

Yeah, I just rented it and there is a good movie in there somewhere but the execution is so horrible. They just randomely kill everybody. There was no point to killing the indian guy since Rourke appeared to be friends with him in the beginning of the film. Nothing in the movie makes much sense. Rourke is good. Lane is not very good in this movie. Jane is on autopilot kicking more a$$ then he did as the punisher. Dawson is wasted. Gordon is pretty damn good but it's pretty unbelieveable the Rourke would go along with him. The movie is all over the place. But i do enjoy the scene where Rourke shots his partner. Slightly unexpected. And the action scenes are well shot but I know with the talent a better movie could have come out of this. 4 and a half out of 10

I think he killed the Indian because he needed to know the husband's name and where to find him...so he asked the indian, and since he's on a killing spree, he now has to kill him, because he asked him about the husband, so the Indian can trace him to the killing... convoluted, I know...

My question is why he didn't kill the woman when he was at the house the first time. She had a shotgun, but she just ran into the house and locked the glass door...if he's such a badass killer, he could have just gone in the house and done his job.

i think he killed the indian for a few reasons. 1)the indian knew too much. he knows bird is a killer (hence why he didnt want him to live in town). 2) he knew he wanted to kill his friend wayne colson, because bird was asking about him. 3) the indian was messing with bird by trying to give him false information, but bird was too smart to fall for it. he heard diane lane's character call out "wayne" in the parking lot. so he knew the indian was b.s'ing him. 4)the indian would of been a loose end, and could of gone to the cops/fbi. 5) the indian could of told the mafia where bird was (which at the time the mafia wanted to kill bird). lucky for bird the indian wasn't smart enough to use the mafia against bird because he didnt know at the time that bird wanted info that only the indian would know about.

as for why he didnt kill carmen. the only thing i could think of is that he was going by his rules. don't pull out your gun or take a shot if there is a chance of missing. maybe she didnt shoot him outside because it was a warning shot and he knew it. but once she's really forced to use force she would actually pull the trigger because she would truly be cornered. so why would he risk dying in a careless act to get her. beside that killing her wouldnt make things easier to killing wayne. wayne is much more exposed and vulnerable with carmen around. with her alive it would be easier to set up a trap by using carmen as bait. bird could of also had a thing for her. the way his dead brother had with the nurse.

Yeah this film had potential, but every little scene was messed up. So many holes, so many stupid lines, so many dumb situations and mistakes. The only good thing was the breasts, and the nipples. The actors did great, but the direction and story sucked.

This gives films like "the professional" a bad name. actually no, because this is in a league of its own.

The killers are too dumb and cold blooded, not interesting at all. And the Colsons relationship is completely stupid.

I could list a lot of problems with this but no, I won't.
Go watch heat, or ronin, or the godfather, or chinatown or anything else.

I tend to avoid threads titled "What a piece of crap" or "Worst Movie Ever" as a general rule. Believing that very few films have no redeeming value that someone, somewhere will like. So the threat titles seem to be venting or trolling. Neither really have any major interest to me.

That disclaimer said, your post hits pretty close to my reaction having watched it. Every scene seems to be off the mark. I got no chemistry from Jane and Lane. Now, I know their relationship is supposed to be tepid etc. But I did not even get that from it. The pacing of the film seems extremely disjointed. Segueing clumsily from one bit to the next. Some Elvis music was nice but mostly the music seemed to be trying to set one tone to a scene while the dialogue was trying to go a different way. The locations were cluttered and yet boring. The hitman made zero sense. No rhyme or reason to his actions. The level of the stupid things he is involved with makes me think he is imbecilic. Only the maniac kid elicited a response. Which was to hope someone would just please hurry up and shut his hyper ratchet-jawing yap for good. He at least did a good job of acting the idiot.

Which is a shame. Decent enough novel. Good actors. So I suppose it has to fall on the shoulders of the director and the writer of the screenplay for what I have to consider a real waste of potential. It could have been so much more.

I give it a tepid 4/10

reply

I agree , This could have been so much better , After the real estate scene when they had enough time 2 kill both of them but just decided to let us look at Rourke doing some snail paced walkabout just watching everything ,then get in his car and drive away , you just knew it was going to go downhill from there .

After that Assassin speech at the beginning , Don't leave any witnesses , get in , get out as fast as you can , blah blah blah , he suddenly became some brain dead zombie ??

For me, this movie was a waste of time and money. The problem wasn't really the acting... it was the script, a real lame story.

reply

Yes. The movie was really dumb. I think it was meant just to display shock value and senseless violence.

Really bad. I hated it. And I LOVE Mickey Rourke. But wow, this movie was hard to take.

The only thing I liked about it was Mickey Rourke, and the only good moment in the movie was when his character shot Richie.

Bad. Just bad. 
