plot hole, maybe? spoliers*

How in the hell does a vampire survive prison? Wendell wouldn't have been alone for a second with another inmate, aside from the occasional shower, and I think it's highly unlikely that he would be able to pull off a murder- let alone the number of murders required for vampire survival- in the time alotted for showers. The family couldn't have sent blood to him. He couldn't kill his roomate- unless Wendell killed him and then set him up for suicide, in which case he would have to store the blood, which would be impossible.

A severed foot is the ultimate stocking stuffer.

Funny, just as I began reading your answer, a thought occured to me...
'She watches too much "OZ"'.

While you should take that show with a BIG grain of salt, I agree with your
"He could bribe people working in the hospital portion of the prison for the blood" sentiment. That would be the easiest and less suspicious way as it is the only way imaginable without killing anybody -- and while the idea of killing the scum of prison would probably go over well, it's not practical. Getting blood via hospital wouldn't leave an unexplained pile of bodies (drained of their blood, no less! Doubt you could attribute that to random prison murder...) and thus would be the best solution an incarcerated vampire could hope for.

(Not to over-analyze a ficticious predicament or anything...) =^.^=

I don't think the family needed human blood to survive. As with the Cullens in the Twilight series, it's some serious urge they have for it but can be substituted for animal blood, hence Wendell and David working in the slaughterhouse and the family previously having a farm. I think this is also alluded to when Darlene talks of the self restraint that the parents showed.

So, I don't think Wendell would have needed access to human blood whilst in prison, just some very undercooked meat!

Ya im pretty sure they don't need it to survive, they just really really enjoy it....And i wouldn't go as far as calling them vampires...And Francis survived without blood for his life up to his victom at the end...So im sure he could survive prison without blood but like some other people said there are probaly ways he could get some...

reply

I agree.

And remember Francis, when presented with eggs, saying they were gross. When the social worker was there they ate regular food, too.

Francis at the end of the movie says that they need blood "and a lot of it". Also, David said at one time during the movie that blood sustains them. So I guess they are both refering to human blood. If they could live off animals there would be no point in risking exposure and killing humans, wouldn't it?

Vampires should be dark and scary - not just some pale-skinned guys with a slight thirst. And so the Hamiltons are forced to feed on humans - that's their curse.

I think the prison thing was just a plot hole and we shouldn't read too much into it.

I just love it when there's a thread where the word "spoilers" is spelled "spoliers"! It's not a good IMDb movie message board without one such thread. ;-)

Haha, easy now. That was a result of quick typing.
