Liked it, but...

...can someone tell me what happened at the end?

The problem was although I like Kelly MacDonald, I couldn't understand her Scottish accent at times and missed some of the conversations at the end. What I did get was that altho they were parting, she changed his life for the better and it was what he was looking for and needed to find to find balance in his life.
The film was very different, characters very interesting and I did like the fact that there was sadness, but the director never let you feel so sad - it was mixed with laughs. The scenes with Nighy and MacDonald were so poignant, you couldn't look away for a minute. Nighy was incredible and I look forward to going back and seeing Love Actually.

I thought the end was left a little ambiguous. They decided they couldn't be together, but then when he called her at the end of the movie, I thought maybe they would be together. I love movies that end like that: It's not the usual "happy" ending. There's room for interpretation, and you can figure out for yourself what will happen to the characters.

Yes, you're right, I think it is OK to figure out the interpretation on our own. I think they will get together because the relationship came full circle.

I don't think that they would get back together. I think the main purpose of their relationship was for Gina to give Lawrence the impetus to act upon the things he already knew were true. And they learnt things from each other that would go on to change the world. As mad as that sounds.

The whole falling in love thing was just a subtext. But I guess the idea is to form your own interpretation. I love ambiguous endings....

Sounds good.

Sunnygirl,

I like your ending best of all - it makes the most sense. Otherwise, I'm still uncertain about most everything in the story.

NJJoany-
My problem with movies are the endings. Half the time, I end up being disappointed. The heavy Scottish accent threw me off, but the movie was quirky and interesting. I want to know what the director meant to happen, not interpret it myself.

Sunnygirl;

Did you read the "What Happened at the End" thread? I explained that I lik ean ending whether or not it's happy or sad. The entire thread is interesting.
