Actors showing their true abilities - suggestions wanted

So I think it's fair to say that there are some actors that we judge, based on the majority of their work, to be not very good, and then we later discover that if they want to, they can actually act really well.

Probably the best examples of this in my experience are Ryan Gosling and Matthew McConaughey.

But after watching 'Before We Go', I find I can add Chris Evans to this list.

Can anyone recommend actors I might have overlooked?

Evans was great in Snowpiercer too

Yup. Agreed on both posts. I thought Evans was a bubblegum baby-face after the first Fantastic 4, and the "goody two-shoes" Cap roles he had. It's not too hard to "act" like a superhero, I've been pretending to be one since I was 4yrs old, and had underoos!

Now with Snow Piercer and Before We Go, I had to do an about-face on my opinion of him. He directed this puppy, too - that blows my mind for such a young actor. He has nuance, and is able to emote just with a glance. That's acting. I look forward to his future projects.

I would recommend Puncture (it was on Netflix awhile back but I think they've since removed it ) if you haven't seen it already and are a fan of courtroom dramas. I think he did really well in that as well. I want to say his Marvel contract ends after this next Avengers film, so I'm hoping we see more non-Cap things from him.

I'm also really looking forward to Gifted which is coming out next year, although from the trailer it looks like the little girl actress may steal the show!
