Film Ending Discussion *SPOILERS*

At the end of the film, what do you think is on the back of the piece of paper? Do you think Brooke ends up back with her husband or do she and Nick reunite?

reply

I honestly hoped she'd go back to Nick! A cheating husband was expecting her home, so...

reply

I am thinking that Nick probably put his phone number on the back. Just so that if she changes her mind or wants to reconnect with him she can. 😆

mmm....padded walls....so soft...

reply

agree with you

reply

Really liked this movie and hope they make a sequel to this where we find out.
Chemistry was great between AE and CE.

reply

I'm of the position that a good movie should not need a sequel, unless it's part of a pre-planned saga. This this isn't the latter, a sequel should not happen.

reply

true. but on the other hand if somethings good you just want more, right?

reply

I'm generally in agreement, but since this film is CONSIDERABLY derivative of Before Sunrise, maybe even an extended homage to it, and since Delpy, Hawke and Linklater did not plan Sunset when they made Sunrise, and since Sunset is, in my opinion, even better, I think that means that we could appreciate a sequel to BWG, and maybe even expect it.

reply

When I get the time, I'm gonna edit the Film, so there is a after Credit Scene, in which the Postcard is check marked Yes.

reply

Thank you for posting that response, but I don't think that will make any difference... most people like a happy ending. A phone number would be good, but "yes" doesn't change anything.

For me,the ending really ruined the film. She goes back to a cheater? No one is made happy by that, especially after that intriguing connection. I really liked the film... until the end. I was so disappointed with the end, I decided before I spend money on a film again, I a looking it up on a movie spoiler site.

Perhaps I am a simple-minded Pollyanna... I like a happy ending. I enjoy the entire experience so much more if it ends happily. Real life has enough pain and disappointment... just watch the news.

You know what they say... no one with missing teeth wears an Armani suit.

reply

I feel the same way. And that's why I usually look up the general end before I go to movies or watch one. Unfortunately some times with limited movies that info is not available or in this case you go you have take a chance given the writers last film was not a bad end.

reply

Right you are.

You generally look up the end of movies before you see them? That's nuts. Why bother watching at all?

I think on the back of the hotel card it says something like, "if it doesn't work out with your husband and I'm still single, let's meet back at the same hotel, same room, in a year" so they can find each other again if the other things going on in their lives are more resolved.

Or in the least it's a "hotel art graffiti" style drawing and love note that she can keep to remember him. But hopefully he would have learned from pining over the previous girl for so long to give her his number and set a date to reunite, otherwise he should just let go of Brooke forever. I think it's the wrong night for Brooke to fully fall for someone else when she's right in the midst of blowing up her marriage, but it helped them both see new possibilities for the future.

reply

I think that with this note he was telling her to actually turn a new page of her life. Most likely, it was his phone on the other side, together with a funny drawing.

It is not so easy to leave a long-time partner. She has cooled off after the initial rage and was already thinking rationally. She had one funny night with Nick and half a life with her husband. Probably, she loves her step child too. It was a realistic ending.

The most likely scenario is that she is going back home. The marriage runs its course, because the glass is already broken. They separate and she gives Nick a call.

reply

This is exactly how I interrupted the ending as well. Well said.

reply

Gungho, i think thats what happens afterall she stated that she still love her husband that she wanted to try to sort things out..

I really like the movie but the ending is just so incomplete that it did not give closure to what happens to both of them.. hope there's a sequel, if not then were all just going to continue asking the question whats at the back & what happens to them?

But that's LIFE! Sometimes we DON'T know what's coming. I'm in a similar predicament now...divorcing after 18 years of marriage. So many unanswered questions. So many 'What If's'! Life is unpredictable and there's NO telling if these characters ever get back together. We can almost draw our OWN conclusion on what we'd LIKE to see (and it seems most pick a happier end of them getting back together eventually).

No sequel needed IMO, ending is ambiguous and PERFECT!

I’d like to think she goes back to NYC. I hope Evans does a director’s commentary and gives some insight.

As with the entire plot of the movie, it's all about that old saying "everything happens for a reason." From the smallest to the grandest of events/details in the movie, everything co-existed. One led to another, to another and so forth. Therefore, keeping that concept in mind, as I watched the ending, one logical explanation came to mind:

As one might recall, in the earlier scene where both characters where in the hotel room filling up the feedback form, it was Chris Evans completing the form in comical fashion, while Alice Eve just listened, enjoyed and slowly subconsciously started falling for Chris. Therefore, based on that fact, supported by the other obvious facts (such as how crazy they really where for each other, their natural chemistry and how they both, in some way, NEEDED change from a miserable life mascarading as the life they originally WANTED), one has to ask this question: "Why would Chris Evans' character fill up the entire feedback form, and yet leave the one question regarding a return visit unanswered?" It's simple. It was because on a deeper level of the term "return visit", he wanted to leave the decision up to Alice Eve's character.

On the back of the note, I don't think Chris wrote his number or any romantic notes or doodles. I'd bet it was more of something like, an invitation, where he gives Alice's character a time frame,e.g 1 or 2 years, with maybe an exact date and/or time, wherein she has the option to entertain the possibilit that Chris might really be the one and has the opportunity to have a 2nd chance at true love again with him. He gives her what she thinks she needs, which is, time to satisfy her curiosity and answer her "what if's?" with her current fiancee. Chris gives her that opportunity, takes his chances, so that if destiny works in their favor, they will begin a new chapter in life to struggle together, without any of the confusion and doubts that were plagueing both of them at the end of the movie. It's fixing another old negative saying "right love in the wrong time" by maybe making it the right love, at the right time.

josephv, I agree with your assessment that the comment card had a deeper meaning and was actually about their relationship. Like the 'Appearance', he answered 'Fair' and then said to her 'like blonde' or the 'Total Experience' he wrote 'exceeds expectations'. I just watched this movie last night and actually she was the one who said to leave that one question blank. I think that was why he left the note on the back because she left the door open with the blank answer to the question .

I don't know if this makes sense as it is Daylight savings Monday and I need a nap.
