Acting and roles

i think the acting of the two actresses are far better than that of Jude Law, does any one agree with me?? As usual, Binoche handles the sensitivity of female emotions excellently..she is fragile and heart-breaking..Robin Wright Penn has also done a good job,her emotions in the movie are volcanic but also convincing..maybe Jude law is too good-looking..which distracted me from appreciating his acting ..
anyway..someone talked about the darkness in the roles..i can understand that of Jude LAW and Binoche..but can anyone explain the darkness in the role played by RObin?? or there isn't anye element like that in the role at all >?

I agree that Law did quite well here, but it is indeed difficult to see him as someone other than JUDE LAW, and I also agree that Binoche (one of my faves) and Penn were both fantastic. I'm not sure about "darkness" in Penn's role, other than maybe how she mentioned that she is conscious of the fact that she distances herself from Francis.

I think the 'darkness' in Penn's role as wife and mother speaks about her difficulties in being pulled between the extra care her daughter needs and probably feeling that it should be more her duty to cope with this difficult (but charming) child because her husband (whom she also adores) is not the girl's real father. There may also be something dark which was not revealed in the movie relating to the actual father and the previous marriage....

I loved this film and everybody in it. I thought that Jude Law did a marvelous job, equaly as strong as the two other main actresses. They were all divine!

No. I don't agree with you.
And you've given the answer to why you think so: maybe Jude law is too good-looking..which distracted me from appreciating his acting ...

I think he's good-looking but not to the point of distracting me from appreciating his work. I never see the real Jude when he plays his characters. He sort of disappears behind them. He plays an excellent Will.

I am satisfied with Jude Law's acting; he delivered a convincing performance in this movie. He captured the right emotions for Will's character as a husband, father, lover and career person. It is a bonus that he is good-looking.

I think the team up with Law ang Minghella always brings out the best in Law. He gets better film after film. It is unfortunate to lost Minghella so soon.

Liv was depressed...this is the reason why she was going to counseling and why she needed the light therapy. This is her "darkness." I never could put my finger on why, though...she indicates in one of her counseling sessions something about Will not being Bea's father, and she wishes he was. I think her depression is what causes her to push Will away, and she won't marry him or really allow him to "parent" Bea.

I think so too. Jude Law is not really that great of a performer.

reply

Jude Law's character is not a showy. He's just a bit calm and mature person, very normal. Law is really good, IMO. Maybe the problem is, he's more young than his two leading actresses. No chemistry at all between Law and Binoche.
but the 3 actors did great job.
