Eraserhead meets Rocky Horror

I've read a few of the threads on the film. One of them mentions the director's sense of humor. Of all that was witnessed in Brand on the Brain, humor was not one of them. This is my first Guy Maddin film. I think I chose it thru netflix because I'd seen a review and clip of My Winnipeg and was intrigued by the avant garde feel of the clip. I was not prepared for the dark and sinister nature that permeated every frame. Eraserhead comes to mind, where one viewing and the VHS tape was put away to gather dust on a shelf. The Rocky Horror connection to Brand on the Brain is the part where different narrators can sit in in place of the DVD's narrator, Isabella Rosellini. I see several people who saw this film saw it at film festivals with the comfort of others around. Alas, I watched it on a gray spring Michigan dusk, alone. A very different timbre, be assured. I do pray that Brand on the Brain is in no way an autobiographical piece for the director.
