Problems with English subtitles on the R1?

Just got the Lionsgate DVD of this film. I usually turn on subtitles as English is not my first language and sometimes I miss lines when I have to rely solely on the audio. However, the English subs on this disc seemed to be annoyingly late - the next line is spoken before the text for the previous line appears.

I was wondering whether this is a flaw in the DVD or maybe a sign that my player is finally giving up.

Anybody with the same DVD that might check their copy for me?
