Incredible Rip Off?

Doesn't this show sound like a rip off of the Incredibles?
A superhero family of four.
The shows name is The X's (Like the Inredibles)
The Dads name is Mr. X (Like Mr. Incredible)
The moms name is Mrs. X (Mrs. Incredible)
And then there is the oldest, a girl and the youngest is a boy.
Sounds like a rip off to me.

Well it's better this than an Incredible series, since they might make that suck.. Still, it's a balant rip-off, and I'd like to laugh at the so called 'creators' at their oh-so original production..

reply

The show is also a rip off on an episode of the Power Puff Girls.

reply

but they're not superheroes, they're spies.

i can't stand the art style though, and it feels like Patrick Warburton is carryingth show.

reply

Spies, huh? Well it's still a little similar, dontcha think? And the fact that they used that orange-red lighting in the ads can be misleading too, since those were the main colours for THE INCREDIBLES as well..

reply

If their spies then not only is it a rip off of the Incrdibles then it is also a rip off of Spy Kids.

I'm watching the show as I type, and it's really not a good show at all. When I saw the previews, my sister immediately said "What...that's exactly like the Incredibles" and for all the reasons you stated.
It just looks like a rip off of the movie, it's not even funny/entertaining. I'm surprised that they acutally got well-known actors and actresses to do the voices for it.

reply

It's a horrible rip-off of both the Incredibles and American Dad. Oh, and it also draws very, very, VERY horribly. It makes me angry...

"What are you people, a buncha' communist?"

reply

I agree about not liking the stylization of the show. It's very harsh on the eyes and just not visually pleasing. Something about the facial features of the female characters just gets to me.

...That and, as others have pointed out, it's a shameless 'Incredibles' rip-off.

reply

I haven't seen the show yet, but I have seen the commercial, and it looks to me like it rips off "The Incredibles" and "American Dad".

I say "American Dad" because (and keep in mind I've only seen the commercial) the dad appears to be the fanatic ultra spy/agent, much like the dad on "American Dad", they have the rebellious daughter (ultra liberal on "American Dad", punk girl on "The X's", same theme- rebellion, foil to the father), and so on and so on.

Come to thimk of it, the dad on "The X's" is also very much like Joe from "Family Guy", and yes, I know it's the same voice.

It takes an incredible amount of work to develop a cartoon for television. They probably wouldn't have had time to knockoff the Incredibles (although they may have heard the concept for it floating around town when they started production). Also, Bird's characters are based on archetypes: a dad that can conquer anything, a mom that can do a million things at once, a teenage girl who hides from everyone, a kid that flies by at a 100 miles a minute. The Incredibles are derived from life.

Furthermore, to say that no show can even have characters of the same ages and vague setting as another (ie a family of four that fights crime) is incredibly limiting. I guess Friends and Seinfeld knocked off each other - two coed bunches of friends hanging around a coffee shop and joking about sex. Oh, but one had 6 people and the other had 4 so I guess that's OK. . .

reply

Oh..My God.... You guys are having a conversation about a cartoon aimed at four year olds, that you don't even like. That's pathetic. First off, this was in production well before Toy Story 2, so SHUT UP! Jesus. Secondly, how old are you? 15, 20? And what is this show aimed at? CHILDREN. "OMG Thyere makin a rip oof off da Incrediballs!" No way? Really? Like anyone in real life cares about a cartoon ripping off another cartoon. God forbid.

reply

Tell me about it.

It's human nature to imitate success. I mean, think about it. I'll bet you people probably watch anime, but ironically, ripoffs are *commonplace* in Japan, even today! America has only seen a handful of anime and manga ever make it here and does not even know or understand this. There were hundreds of ripoffs of, say, ULTRAMAN and KAMEN (MASKED) RIDER (the two greatest model superheroes in Japan) since the 70s, but most of them were quite entertaining (if cheesy), and some of them were memorable (KIKAIDER/KIKAIDA, for example). And ironically, many of these ripoffs were by the same creators! Same deal for giant robots! MAZINGER Z has spawned many imitations throughout the 70s after his debut in 1972. And VOLTRON (GOLION and DAIRUGGER XV) was in the same series of shows started by 1976's COMBATTLER V, so essentially, it's a ripoff! By that time, Popy/Bandai was really pushing the toys! This happened to the Super Sentai Series, too (and that was an offshoot of KAMEN RIDER).

FYI, I really like THE X'S. Yeah, I *know* it's a blatant ripoff of THE INCREDIBLES (which is one of my favorite movies, BTW), but it's a pretty good one, IMHO. Looking beyond that, I really like the animation and stylized designs. Carlos Ramos' designs, which recalls the styles of Shane Glines (one of the most influential artists these days) and other artists in the retro cartoon community. I don't know what they'll think of the show itself, unless I see any reviews, but I'm sure they'll eat up the animation style, at least! I also like the voice acting. Patrick Warburton rocks! (He was also Brock Samson in THE VENTURE BROS.)

As for Nickelodeon cartoons, REN & STIMPY (before John K. got fired) and INVADER ZIM are my absolute favorites, and I also really enjoy FAIRLY ODDPARENTS and DANNY PHANTOM. I also like JIMMY NEUTRON, as I'm friends with the creator (he and I are Godzilla fans). Sure, that was a ripoff of DEXTER'S LAB, but it's also better than *anything* after EGO TRIP (which I consider the last DEXTER episode).

I wonder what happened to that old saying, "Imitation is the highest form of flattery." ;)

Kind of seems that way,... well I haven't seen many episodes, so I'll give it a chance. It maybe doesn't look original, but maybe even cheesy or horrible looking shows can surprise ya.

reply

Basically the funniest part of this whole tread is the people who are all “OMG IT’S JUST A CARTOON U GEHS WTF GETALIFE!” and then going on the longest, mot involved and preachy rants in the entire thread. Well done.

Oh, and it’s a total rip-off of the Incredibles – so much so I’m surprised they haven’t been sued. And it’s not funny. And the animation sucks. Not much more to this conversation.

i really like the style of it, but too bad it's still a rip off and shouldnt be entertained... I hope the aniomators get a better job than on this show though...

and to the above poster, INCREDIBLES came out in 2004, this came out in 2005... And this is a flash cartoon, which doesn't really take long to make, hell, the creators just had to watch the trailer to get this idea and stuff it into Nick's stupid little face...

reply

It's not a rip off of anything at all, it's a completely original concept. What happened was this, creator Carlos Ramos, came to Nick eight years ago with the show, and they flat out turned him down because it was too original eg. No one would like it because it's never been done before. Fast forward a few years and the Incredibles hits theaters and makes ton$$ of money so Nick called him back in and said lets run with the show! Thus the X's were born. So just everybody settle down it is similar but no one is ripping anyone off, as writers we write about what we know, we have to. And who doesn't have a family? We all do and so it's the basics of a ton of films and t.v shows, is the Brady bunch anymore full house then different stokes is Webster? There is only so much a human being can think up to do with a story, Example let's say you decide to tell a story about a family, like yours, we'll there weird sure but no stranger then you best friend's clan or the nut who lives down the street from you, your show would end up being like families we've seen already the Bluth's the Simpson's or the Winslow's. So you need an edge something original something cool, so what if they lived in space [the jetsons]? Or what if their super hero's [bionic six- the Incredibles] or spy's [spy kids-James Bond jr. ]or they were ghosts or.Or lived on a tropical island [Swiss Family Robinson]. or solved crimes[the Chan clan] or what ever you see the possibilities are endless. Go easy on Carlos he's really a smart kat. I only know this cause I have a friend who works on the show.

Nope ... not a rip-off. It would be the other way around. The X's went into production before The Incredibles. It was held for the fall 2005 lineup ... that's all. So ... if either is a rip-off it would be The Incredibles.

Oh well. The show is cancelled anyways.

Hmmmmmmmmmm........ are you a fan of film music?

If any of you are, seriously, give a listen to "On Her Majesty's Secret Service - A View to A Kill (suite)" from The Essential James Bond CD composed in the year 1969. Seriously. Please take note of the melody that comes in at exactly 00:42 in the track. See if this sounds familiar to any of you or any other trumpeters of "originality".

Unless you are "incredibly" tone deaf (pardon the pun...)and void of any musical ear at all... you should be able to hear what I am referring to.

I was under the impression a composer had to be dead for 75 years before his work could become public domain. Poor, poor John Barry.........

Anyway...... and yes, The X's was well under way in production before The Incredibles. Carlos had to intentionally avoid similarities between his characters because he knew The Incredibles was soon getting under way. Just to help clear this ridiculous record.
