Totally agree. And killing off Gil was a big, big mistake. The glorious vibe of the 1 hour series one episodes has been lost forever, and Renwick could never bring Gil back now.

Are you so sure they could 'never bring him back'? There are some discussions on other forums where they have proved that hope is not lost altogether ;)

Adrian: Why do you wanna fight?
Rocky: Because I can't sing or dance.

How can you ignore the line "he died of a heart attack" which Cleo said in the next episode. Also, Douglas, Lloyd and Alice have all referred to Gil's death.

Not even Renwick can get out of that one! lol

Oh and last night's episode was weak too. It's just lost some of its magic for me.

On another forum someone posted this which gave me some hope still...

"It's still quite possible that Gil is still alive! Remember, he hasn't been mentioned by name at all, either by Alice or by the agent. All we know is that Alice has been corresponding with someone, a colleague of Gil's agent, who has now died of a heart attack (according to Gil's agent)......and that this person she was corresponding with sent her a photo of Gil.

As I said last week, I think the person who's died could be another colleague of the agent's. Perhaps it's someone who's a bit un-confident about his own physical attractiveness, so he used Gil's picture instead of his own to make a better first impression. If Gil was definitely dead, I think Alice would have mentioned him by name tonight when she spoke about what happened. The fact that she didn't refer to him by name, and nor did the agent last week, is the biggest indication that all is not what it seems here. (That's often the biggest clue that there's a twist coming: when something is referred to with a vital detail left out. Remember, this is David Renwick, the master of leading his audience up the garden path and presenting us with situations that turn out to be quite different from what we first suspected). I don't think that tonight's episode is definitive proof of Gil being dead....in fact it just made me all the more sure that he's still alive."

Interesting theory; but ALice also mentioned in the episode that Cleo said he died of a heart attack that "he seemed so right for me" or something - indicating that it must have been Gil.

That said, I do like the theory that someone else had used Gil's photo due to insecurity about their own appearance, but I have a bad feeling that Renwick won't mention this again, it's like they are trying to move the show on as smoothly as possible from Landes' departure.

I really do hope there is a good ending and even twist in episode 12 though, to give us hope. Then this series won't have been so much of a mess.

In the blurb for the upcoming DVD release of Love Soup Series Two it says:

"Alice's new friends drag her into the world of showbiz. There, her encounters with heartthrob actor Jake Randall, veteran comedian Gordon Bexter, madcap Marty Cady and a German necrophiliac only serve to increase her self-doubt. Could Douglas really be "the one"? Should she adopt the more off-beat attitude to romance shared by her perfume counter colleagues Millie and Cleo? Or could it really be possible that she lost her soul mate?"

The last sentence COULD be hinting at IS GIL REALLY DEAD?

I still have a strong feeling we are going to be pleasantly suprprised by the time the series ends.

Oh ninjaphil you're reading a hell of a lot into that blurb aren't you?? I so hope you're right though...

hehe, what can I say. Always trying to be an optimist :p

WEll, I just watched episode 11 on iplayer (another generally weak episode I thought), however, the ending of it has indeed left me with some optimism too, it referred back to the date that never was between Alice and the person we presume to be Gil. Could it be that Gil is still around?!!

Also the middle class, pretentiousness of Renwick's writing in series two is really starting to grate on me. As someone else commented, this series really hasn't had the lightness of touch of the first series, and has focused too much on satarising the media rather than just telling the story.

Yes, I found last week's ending very strange too.

Maybe ghost Gil? Or identical twin? It could happen :oP

Oh well, I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

If it weren't for my horse I wouldn't have spent that year in college.
