The boom microphone was in shot quite a few times

I noticed the boom microphone was in shot quite a few times. Can anyone tell me if this was on purpose because of the whole thing with the microphone in picking up her mother from the past.

Were you watching it on TV? This movie was made in 2.35:1 aspect ratio, which even on a widescreen (16:9)TV, will have black bars at the top and bottom.

As a lot viewers, especially those with 4:3 TVs don't like black bands, the TV companies sometimes buy a 'full frame' version to fill the screen.

The prints are the same width as a widescreen version, but include the bits the director didn't want shown, where the black bands are.

It's in these extra bits, you can sometimes see the boom.

For the DVD in the UK, we are the Distributor:
This movie was made in 2.35:1 aspect ratio, and there was a mistake while formatting the DVD. It is now being re authored to correct the mistake.
For more information please contact us at Dogwoof.

As stated where the black bands are, it's in these extra bits, you can sometimes see the boom. Dogwoof accepts responsibility for this mistake, as it was not the filmaker's fault.

I saw this film on DVD and absolutely loved it: the mood, pace, performances, story and direction were mesmerising. As for the boom dipping into frame - I thought that this was odd but must have been connected to the story as it was all about a film sound recordist anyway! I'm not sure I believe that this was a mistake in this instance...
